Decentralized derivatives protocol Synthetix is gearing up for a major milestone: the launch of the first perpetuals exchange on Ethereum mainnet, scheduled for Q4 2025. To kick things off, the team is rolling out a $1 million trading competition in October to showcase the platform’s new features.
Gasless Trading and Multi-Collateral Margin
The new exchange promises gasless trading, zero settlement costs, and multi-collateral margin — a setup designed to bring high-performance derivatives directly to Ethereum’s deep liquidity pools. Traders will be able to post a mix of assets, including Ethena’s sUSDe, Lido’s wstETH, and Coinbase’s cbBTC, as margin.
This means users won’t have to sell their ETH, BTC, or yield-bearing tokens to trade perps. Instead, they can keep exposure to their assets, continue earning staking or funding yields, and avoid triggering taxable events — all while opening leveraged positions.
Unlocking Advanced Strategies
By introducing multi-collateral margin, Synthetix is opening the door to more efficient arbitrage and hedging strategies. For instance, a trader could deposit wstETH, short ETH perpetuals of equal size, and benefit from both staking rewards and positive funding payments.
According to the team, this setup enhances strategies like basis trading while also removing the friction of bridging to other chains. Built directly on Ethereum, it allows seamless composability with DeFi protocols such as Aave, strengthening Ethereum’s role as a hub for on-chain derivatives.
$1M Trading Competition
Before the mainnet DEX goes fully live, Synthetix will host a one-month trading competition starting in October. About 100 participants will be selected from among Kwenta point holders, pre-depositors, and top users.
Competitors will receive seeded margin capital to trade in markets including BTC, ETH, SOL, and DOGE. The top trader will walk away with a $1 million prize, while additional SNX token rewards and perks will go to other high performers.
The competition is more than just a marketing push it’s also a stress test. By putting the platform through real-world trading conditions, Synthetix aims to fine-tune infrastructure, strengthen integrations with liquidity providers, and ensure smooth performance ahead of full rollout. Winners will be announced in November, with rewards distributed directly onchain.
Why It Matters
With Ethereum currently boasting over $90 billion in liquidity, staking, and lending pools, Synthetix’s perpetual DEX launch could make the mainnet a true powerhouse for decentralized derivatives. The combination of deep liquidity, yield-bearing collateral, and gasless trading has the potential to reshape how professional traders use DeFi.
Synthetix is betting that this innovation will not only attract advanced trading strategies but also position Ethereum mainnet as the go-to venue for secure, high-performance perpetuals trading.
