Crypto exchange Bybit is preparing for Europe’s new crypto regulatory framework by gradually limiting access to certain services on its global platform for users in the European Economic Area (EEA).
The move comes ahead of the July 1, 2026, enforcement of the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation, which requires crypto service providers to operate under approved licenses.
Rather than exiting the European market, Bybit is directing eligible users toward its regulated European platform while ensuring customers retain access to their existing assets.
Service Restrictions Will Be Introduced Gradually
Bybit said affected users will receive advance notifications before any restrictions are implemented.
The company plans to provide clear timelines and guidance, allowing customers to manage their existing balances and open trading positions before any service limitations take effect.
The restrictions apply to users across most EEA countries, including:
- Austria
- France
- Germany
- Italy
- Spain
- Netherlands
- Ireland
- Sweden
Malta is currently excluded because Bybit EU’s license has not yet been passported there.
Users Will Continue to Access Their Assets
Bybit emphasized that users will not lose access to funds held in their accounts.
According to the company, customers will continue to access their balances while they close or transfer existing positions as required.
The exchange also confirmed that customer assets will not be frozen or confiscated as part of the transition.
Instead, users are encouraged to monitor official account notifications for updates relevant to their individual accounts.
Bybit EU Becomes the Main Platform
The changes reflect Bybit’s broader transition toward its regulated European entity.
Bybit EU GmbH, headquartered in Austria, received authorization as a Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) from Austria’s Financial Market Authority in May 2025.
The license allows the company to offer several regulated crypto services, including:
- Crypto custody
- Crypto-to-fiat exchange
- Crypto-to-crypto trading
- Asset transfers
- Placement of crypto-assets
The company also stated that it continues pursuing additional regulatory approvals to expand its product offering across Europe.
MiCA Is Reshaping Europe’s Crypto Market
MiCA becomes fully enforceable across the European Union on July 1, 2026.
Under the new rules, crypto companies without authorization can no longer legally provide covered services to EU customers.
Licensed firms, however, gain the advantage of operating across all member states through passporting rights under a single regulatory framework.
