The Pi Network (PI) token continues to trade sideways, stuck in a narrow range despite multiple bullish developments around the project. On Sunday, September 7, Pi was changing hands at $0.3440, the same range it has hovered in since August.
Valour Pi Fund shows weak demand
One of the most recent catalysts for Pi has been the launch of the Valour Pi ETP, designed to give both retail and institutional investors exposure to the token. However, interest so far has been underwhelming.
According to official data, the fund has attracted just 18,483 SEK (around $1,967) in assets, a small figure compared to Valour’s $900 million in AUM. This sluggish demand has raised questions, especially since Pi still boasts a market cap above $2.7 billion.
Past catalysts have failed to lift Pi
This is not the first time Pi has shrugged off big announcements:
- In May, developers launched a $100 million Pi ecosystem fund aimed at growing utility by backing new apps but the token fell instead of rising.
- The launch of Pi AI Studio, a tool for building AI apps and agents, also saw only mild price reactions.
- A recent protocol upgrade to align with Stellar Protocol 23 was followed by another retreat in price.
Adding to the pressure, Pi continues to face challenges from ongoing token unlocks and the lack of major exchange listings since its mainnet debut in February.
Technical analysis: bearish signals ahead?
Charts suggest Pi could be at risk of another downside move.
- The token has already slipped below the 50-week EMA, keeping the bearish trend intact.
- It appears to be forming a bearish flag pattern, which often precedes further declines.
- Pi also remains below the Ichimoku cloud, while the RSI has dipped under 50, signaling weakening momentum.
If Pi falls below the $0.3327 support level where it recently formed a double-bottom pattern the probability of a bearish breakout will rise sharply.
The bigger picture
Despite strong developer activity and new ecosystem initiatives, Pi Network’s token has yet to attract enough demand to push it higher. With technical indicators flashing warning signs, traders will be watching closely to see whether Pi can hold support or face another leg down.
