World Liberty Financial, the crypto project tied to former U.S. President Donald Trump and his sons, is taking a big step toward opening its ecosystem to public markets.
On July 9, the project launched a governance vote to decide whether its WLFI token should become tradable beyond its current closed platform. Right now, WLFI is locked inside the project’s ecosystem and can’t be traded on external exchanges.
Early results show strong community support for the proposal, which signals growing momentum around the token and a push toward greater decentralization. The voting period runs until July 16.
A Path Toward Tradability and Broader Access
If the proposal passes, it would pave the way for WLFI to be transferable meaning holders could trade it on decentralized exchanges and in peer-to-peer markets. That shift would bring several benefits, like broader access, clearer price discovery, and more ways for users to engage in governance.
For instance, a tradable WLFI could let users participate in key decisions about how the project manages incentives, emissions schedules, and treasury operations.
While there’s still no official word on specific exchange listings, this vote is seen as the first move toward unlocking new opportunities for WLFI holders.
Trump Ties and Community Focus
The project has faced scrutiny due to its connections to the Trump family, who reportedly hold around 40% of WLFI’s token supply. However, the current governance proposal doesn’t mention any political affiliations.
According to details on the voting page, tokens owned by the project’s founders, team, and advisors will remain locked for now and won’t be part of the initial unlock.
If the vote passes, trading will roll out in phases. Some token holders will be allowed to unlock portions of their holdings, and Know Your Customer (KYC) checks will resume for new users. A second governance vote will determine when further token unlocks might happen.
Progress on USD1 Stablecoin
Meanwhile, World Liberty Financial continues work on its USD1 stablecoin, which was recently airdropped to WLFI holders. USD1 currently has a circulating supply of $2.2 billion and is undergoing a third-party audit to ensure it complies with regulatory standards.
Looking ahead, the protocol plans to integrate monitoring tools from blockchain analytics firm TRM Labs as part of its next development phase.
Regulatory Concerns Linger
Despite ongoing concerns from U.S. lawmakers including a bill from Representative Adam Schiff that aims to restrict government officials from promoting crypto projects WLFI token holders appear eager to move forward.
All eyes are now on the July 16 vote result, which could open a new chapter for World Liberty Financial and its growing community.
