Tether Operations Limited deepened its commitment to Bitcoin in the fourth quarter of 2025, acquiring 8,888 BTC and pushing its total holdings beyond 96,000 Bitcoin, according to the company’s latest quarterly disclosure.
The purchase marks the third consecutive quarter in which Tether has added exactly 8,888 BTC to its balance sheet, underscoring a deliberate and disciplined accumulation strategy rather than opportunistic buying.
Based on on-chain data, the move positions Tether as the fifth-largest single Bitcoin wallet holder globally, placing it among the most influential corporate players in the crypto market.
Bitcoin remains a strategic hedge, not a primary reserve
Despite the growing Bitcoin stack, Tether emphasized that BTC still represents a minority portion of its overall reserves, which continue to be dominated by U.S. Treasury bills backing its USDT stablecoin.
Still, the company has consistently framed Bitcoin as a core long-term hedge and treasury asset.
Under a policy announced in 2023, Tether committed to allocating up to 15% of its net realized operating profits toward Bitcoin purchases. The firm says the strategy is designed to diversify reserves and protect purchasing power against inflationary risks in traditional financial systems.
Profits fuel continued accumulation
Tether’s Bitcoin purchases were enabled by strong profitability throughout 2025. The company reported sufficient profits during the first nine months of the year to continue executing its BTC acquisition plan.
As of Sept. 30, 2025, USDT remained fully backed, primarily by U.S. Treasuries, with Bitcoin accounting for a smaller but increasingly strategic slice of the reserve mix.
While the company did not disclose exact valuation figures, its Bitcoin holdings currently represent substantial unrealized gains at prevailing market prices.
Tether positions Bitcoin as a balance-sheet cornerstone
In public statements, Tether has repeatedly described Bitcoin as a foundational asset within what it views as a resilient and future-proof financial ecosystem.
By steadily accumulating BTC quarter after quarter, Tether has quietly become one of the largest corporate Bitcoin holders in the world, rivaling publicly listed firms and long-standing institutional players.
The approach contrasts with more volatile treasury strategies seen elsewhere in the industry, signaling that Tether views Bitcoin less as a speculative trade and more as a long-duration reserve asset.
