Bitcoin may be facing additional downside risk, according to veteran trader Peter Brandt, who has highlighted a bearish price structure forming near a key resistance zone.
In a chart shared on social media platform X, Brandt pointed to a downward-sloping channel that continues to contain Bitcoin’s recent price action. The pattern suggests that, without a meaningful surge in buying pressure, BTC could drift lower into a reduced trading range.
Bearish channel remains intact
Brandt’s analysis shows Bitcoin struggling to reclaim ground near the six-figure resistance area, where repeated attempts to push higher have failed. As long as price remains capped within the descending channel, the technical bias leans toward further weakness rather than an immediate breakout.
The trader warned that if buyers fail to step in decisively, Bitcoin could slide toward lower support levels. At the same time, Brandt emphasized that technical forecasts are probabilistic, noting openly that his market calls are not infallible and that he would not be embarrassed if the market proves him wrong.
Volatility persists amid macro uncertainty
Bitcoin’s price action has remained choppy in recent months as investors weigh macroeconomic pressures, shifting interest-rate expectations, and evolving regulatory developments. After reaching record highs earlier in the cycle, BTC has entered a more volatile phase marked by sharp rallies and pullbacks.
This environment has made technical levels increasingly important for traders attempting to gauge near-term direction. A confirmed break above the upper boundary of Brandt’s bearish channel would weaken the downside thesis, while continued rejection could reinforce expectations of further consolidation or decline.
What traders are watching next
Market participants are now closely monitoring whether Bitcoin can attract enough demand to invalidate the bearish structure. Until that happens, analysts say caution remains warranted, particularly as liquidity conditions and risk sentiment remain fragile across broader markets.
For now, Brandt’s message is a familiar one for seasoned traders: trend matters, and until Bitcoin convincingly breaks out of its current channel, the risk of additional downside cannot be ruled out.
