Moscow Exchange is increasing its exposure to digital assets by launching four new cryptocurrency indexes tied to Solana, XRP, Tron, and BNB.
The exchange said the new benchmarks will go live on May 13 under the tickers MOEXSOL, MOEXXRP, MOEXTRX, and MOEXBNB, broadening its crypto index lineup beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum.
The move marks another step in Russia’s gradual expansion of regulated crypto-linked financial products for professional investors.
Pricing Will Be Sourced From Major Global Exchanges
To calculate the indexes, Moscow Exchange will use pricing data from four major crypto trading platforms:
- Binance: 50% weighting
- Bybit: 20% weighting
- OKX: 15% weighting
- Bitget: 15% weighting
This weighted model is designed to provide more balanced and reliable benchmark pricing across multiple liquidity venues.
Bitcoin and Ethereum Indexes to Receive Faster Updates
Alongside the launch of the new altcoin benchmarks, Moscow Exchange will also improve its existing crypto indexes.
Starting May 13, the exchange plans to update all digital asset indexes including MOEXBTC and MOEXETH — every 15 seconds during trading sessions and weekend trading windows.
The faster refresh rate could make these benchmarks more practical for structured financial products linked to crypto prices.
New Indexes Could Support Future Crypto Investment Products
While Moscow Exchange has not yet confirmed any tradable products tied to the new indexes, it said the benchmarks may serve as underlying assets for future instruments.
That could include:
- Crypto-linked futures
- Structured investment notes
- Exchange-traded products
- Additional derivative instruments for qualified investors
However, no timeline has been announced.
Russia Continues Controlled Crypto Market Expansion
Russia still limits direct cryptocurrency trading on regulated domestic exchanges.
Instead, regulators are allowing crypto exposure primarily through approved financial products for qualified investors.
This approach follows Moscow Exchange’s earlier launch of a Bitcoin ETF futures contract linked to BlackRock’s IBIT in 2025, which was restricted to professional investors only.
Regulators Push for Greater Oversight of Crypto Activity
Russian officials continue to push for tighter control over crypto markets.
Deputy Finance Minister Ivan Chebeskov previously estimated that Russian crypto turnover reaches roughly 50 billion rubles per day, much of which remains outside regulated channels.
The Bank of Russia has repeatedly warned about risks tied to unregulated crypto activity and gray-market transactions.
More Crypto Indexes May Be Added Later
Moscow Exchange reportedly plans to expand its crypto benchmark list to 10 digital assets.
Additional cryptocurrencies under consideration include:
- Dogecoin
- Cardano
- Hyperliquid
- Chainlink
The exchange is also exploring crypto index futures and potentially perpetual futures products.
According to its current roadmap, direct crypto trading on Moscow Exchange may begin as early as 2027.
