Hyperliquid (HYPE) surged to a new all-time high on September 8, buoyed by fresh institutional backing, major technical upgrades, and the announcement of its upcoming USDH stablecoin.
Price Breakout and Market Standing
The token climbed 7.5% to $51.89, pushing its market cap to $16 billion. With that, Hyperliquid became the 11th-largest cryptocurrency, overtaking Chainlink (LINK) in the rankings.
The rally highlights growing momentum around the decentralized exchange (DEX), which has quickly become a major player in DeFi thanks to its strong trading infrastructure and expanding ecosystem.
Lion Group Bets Big on HYPE
One of the biggest drivers of Hyperliquid’s latest surge came from Lion Group, a Singapore-based fintech and trading platform listed on Nasdaq.
On Monday, the company announced it will ditch Solana (SOL) and Sui (SUI) in favor of building long-term positions in HYPE. Lion Group cited Hyperliquid as offering “the most compelling opportunity in DeFi” and said it would accumulate tokens during market pullbacks.
The decision marks an important moment of institutional legitimacy for Hyperliquid, signaling to other investors that HYPE may now be seen as a “safer” bet. It also follows BitGo’s move to introduce custodial support for Hyperliquid through its HyperEMV solutions in the United States.
Stablecoin Launch and Network Upgrades
Another major catalyst is Hyperliquid’s plan to launch USDH, a native stablecoin designed to strengthen its ecosystem. The proposal, put forward during a governance vote, was well received and will form part of the protocol’s next major upgrade.
The upgrade, announced on September 5, will:
- Cut trading fees on certain pairs by up to 80%
- Reduce rebates to streamline liquidity incentives
Hyperliquid says these changes will boost efficiency and attract deeper liquidity to its high-frequency trading DEX.
