Plasma (XPL) has entered a short-term bear market following its recent airdrop, with the token’s price falling sharply despite remarkable growth in network activity, DeFi adoption, and ecosystem expansion. The sell-off highlights the disconnect between strong fundamentals and short-term market sentiment often seen after major token distributions.

The XPL token dropped below the key support level of $1, hitting an intraday low of $0.8720, marking a nearly 50% decline from its monthly high. The steep drop comes as many airdrop recipients rushed to sell their newly received tokens, a pattern that has become common across the crypto industry.

Meanwhile, total value locked (TVL) in Plasma’s DeFi ecosystem has soared to $10 billion, ranking it as the fifth-largest blockchain by TVL, trailing only Ethereum, Solana, BNB Chain, and Bitcoin. This milestone puts Plasma ahead of notable networks like Cardano, Tron, and Sui.

Plasma’s rise extends beyond DeFi. The network now hosts a thriving stablecoin ecosystem with a combined market capitalization exceeding $5.28 billion. This solidifies its position as one of the top five stablecoin chains globally.
Adding to the bullish fundamentals, Plasma recently announced a strategic partnership with Chainlink, which will serve as its official oracle provider.
