Ethereum (ETH) is holding firm near the $3,900 support zone, forming an ascending triangle pattern that could signal a potential bullish breakout toward $4,800–$4,900 if resistance around $4,300 gives way.
Ethereum Defends Key Support Ahead of FOMC Meeting
After a brief dip tied to broader market uncertainty ahead of the upcoming Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting, Ethereum has rebounded, maintaining its footing above the $3,900 local support. This level aligns with the ascending trendline drawn from the October 10 intraday low, representing the lower boundary of the current ascending triangle pattern a structure often viewed as a bullish continuation setup.
At press time, ETH is trading within a narrow range between $3,900 and $4,300, with bulls actively defending trendline support to sustain the uptrend.
Technical Picture: Consolidation Before Breakout
The Stochastic RSI on the daily chart is easing from near-overbought territory, indicating that Ethereum might pause or consolidate before attempting another leg higher.
If ETH continues to hold above the ascending trendline, analysts expect a retest of the $4,250–$4,300 resistance zone, which marks the upper boundary of the triangle. According to on-chain analyst Ali Martinez, this area represents a significant supply cluster where many investors previously bought ETH meaning some may look to take profits, temporarily capping upside momentum.
However, a clear daily close above $4,300 would confirm the breakout and potentially trigger a measured move toward $4,800–$4,900, based on the triangle’s height projection.
“A breakout above $4,300 could re-ignite Ethereum’s mid-term rally, with $4,800 in view,” Martinez noted. “But buyers will need volume confirmation to avoid a false breakout.”
Institutional Demand Reinforces Ethereum’s Strength
Beyond technical indicators, institutional flows are playing a key role in Ethereum’s current resilience.
Data from crypto.news shows that Ethereum spot ETFs recorded approximately $246 million in net inflows on October 28, reflecting renewed interest from institutional investors seeking ETH exposure ahead of major macro events.
Meanwhile, BitMine Immersion Technologies one of the largest corporate Ethereum holders recently expanded its ETH treasury. The company acquired 27,316 ETH worth about $113 million, bringing its total holdings to 3.31 million ETH, valued at over $13.3 billion.
That means BitMine now owns roughly 2.8% of Ethereum’s circulating supply, as it moves closer to its long-term goal of controlling 5% of all ETH in existence.
This accumulation, paired with rising ETF inflows, underscores Ethereum’s growing appeal as an institutional-grade asset amid shifting macroeconomic conditions.
Key Levels to Watch
- Support: $3,900 (ascending trendline), followed by $3,750 if weakness deepens
- Resistance: $4,250–$4,300 (upper triangle boundary)
- Breakout Target: $4,800–$4,900 if the pattern confirms
Outlook: Bulls in Control, But Volume Needed
Ethereum’s structure remains constructively bullish while price stays above $3,900. The combination of strong ETF inflows, whale accumulation, and robust on-chain fundamentals supports the view that ETH could extend higher once short-term consolidation resolves.
However, traders are watching closely for breakout confirmation above $4,300 with high volume the signal that could validate the next move toward $4,800–$4,900.
Until then, Ethereum remains in a tight consolidation phase, balancing institutional optimism with cautious technical momentum as the broader market awaits direction from the FOMC meeting.
