Ethereum (ETH) is back in the spotlight, posting impressive gains over the past week as bullish momentum sweeps across the crypto market. While many have credited the rally to improving U.S. regulatory sentiment and growing institutional interest, new data points to Asia as the real driving force behind Ethereum’s latest surge.
Asia Traders Fuel ETH’s Uptrend
A fresh report from Matrixport (July 16) reveals a surprising trend: Asian trading hours accounted for 17% of Ethereum’s 20% gain over the past month. That’s nearly the entire rally, suggesting that most of the recent price action isn’t coming from the U.S., even with all the ETF buzz and growing crypto chatter.
“Ethereum’s momentum right now is being driven almost entirely by Asia-based demand,” the report noted.
This shift in regional buying power highlights just how influential the Asian market has become in shaping short-term crypto trends, particularly for large-cap assets like ETH.
Institutional Demand Still Strong
Of course, it’s not just retail traders in Asia moving the needle.
U.S.-listed Ethereum ETFs recorded over $450 million in inflows in the past week alone signaling a growing appetite among professional investors. And multiple firms have gone public with major ETH allocations, reinforcing the narrative that Ethereum is quickly becoming a go-to asset for institutional portfolios.
Some recent highlights include:
- SharpLink, an iGaming company, with a $213 million ETH investment
- Bit Digital, a Nasdaq-listed mining firm
- Bitmine, which added nearly $500 million in ETH to its books
Hong Kong ETFs Show Strong Demand But With a Catch
Further reinforcing Asia’s growing influence, SoSoValue reports that Ethereum-tracking ETFs in Hong Kong rose more than 5% in a single day. However, there’s a caveat: most of these funds are still trading below their net asset value (NAV) a sign that investor caution remains, or perhaps that regional price dynamics are still catching up.
Where ETH Stands Now
At the time of writing, Ethereum is trading just above $3,100, climbing nearly 7% in the past 24 hours. After months of sluggish performance, this recovery is turning heads especially since ETH is now outperforming Bitcoin and most of the broader market.
With strong institutional backing, increasing ETF flows, and a wave of momentum out of Asia, Ethereum looks poised to keep pushing higher. The question now is: how far can this rally go?
