TRON founder Justin Sun is taking legal action against Bloomberg, accusing the media giant of misrepresenting his crypto holdings and putting his safety at risk.
The Dispute Over Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index
On August 13, TRON DAO announced via blog post that Sun had filed a restraining order against Bloomberg. The move came just two days after Bloomberg published a profile of Sun in its Billionaires Index, estimating his net worth at $12.4 billion.
According to Bloomberg’s report, the majority of Sun’s fortune comes from his alleged ownership of 60 billion TRX tokens around 60% of all TRX in circulation. The profile also claims he holds 17,000 Bitcoin (BTC), 224,000 Ethereum (ETH), and 700,000 USDT.
Sun disputes these numbers, saying Bloomberg attributed cryptocurrency holdings to him that he has never owned, controlled, or benefited from, while failing to include assets he does hold. He has not publicly disclosed what his actual holdings are or which details he believes are incorrect.
Wallet Address Privacy at the Center of the Lawsuit
According to Sun, Bloomberg contacted him for information on his crypto holdings. He agreed to share his wallet addresses for verification, but only on the condition that they would remain private.
Sun now claims that Bloomberg has threatened to publish those addresses something he argues could make him a target for hacking and even kidnapping. In his legal filing, Sun is seeking an injunction to prevent Bloomberg from revealing this information.
So far, Bloomberg has not published the wallet addresses.
Bloomberg Pushes Back
Bloomberg’s legal team has vowed to fight the restraining order, arguing that Sun cannot prove the profile caused him harm or that the outlet broke any promise to keep his wallet addresses confidential.
