Cathie Wood’s ARK Invest is continuing to capitalize on the impressive post-IPO rally of Circle (CRCL), trimming its holdings while the stock maintains its upward trajectory. In its latest move, ARK offloaded 609,175 shares of CRCL across three of its flagship ETFs, generating approximately $146.2 million in proceeds, according to portfolio disclosures dated June 20.
This latest sale follows ARK’s prior sell-offs on June 16 and June 17, worth $52 million and $45 million respectively, bringing the firm’s total realized profits from Circle stock sales to around $243 million.
Timed with Price Spikes
The most recent divestment came immediately after a 20.4% surge in Circle’s stock price, which has been a recurring trend in ARK’s trading strategy. The June 20 sale included:
- 490,549 shares from the ARK Innovation ETF (ARKK)
- 75,018 shares from the ARK Next Generation Internet ETF (ARKW)
- 43,608 shares from the ARK Fintech Innovation ETF (ARKF)
Circle’s IPO debut price was $31, but the stock has now skyrocketed over 400%, trading near $240 at press time. ARK’s ability to time these sales during sharp rallies reflects a strategic effort to secure profits without fully exiting its position.
ARK Still Holds a Major Stake
Despite the recent sell-offs, ARK Invest remains one of the largest institutional holders of Circle stock. The firm initially purchased 4.5 million shares shortly after CRCL’s public debut. Following its latest round of sales, ARK still holds over 3.2 million shares, with a current estimated value of $779 million placing it as the eighth-largest CRCL shareholder.
Circle Now a Core ARK Holding
Circle’s dramatic rise has turned it into a core holding across ARK’s portfolio, joining the ranks of high-conviction positions such as Tesla (TSLA) and Robinhood (HOOD). The Boston-based stablecoin issuer’s market success has been underpinned by strong institutional demand, increasing adoption of USDC, and broader crypto market momentum.
The largest shareholder remains the IDG-Accel China Capital Fund II, based in Beijing, which currently controls 23.3 million CRCL shares.
Final Thoughts
Cathie Wood and ARK Invest continue to demonstrate adept portfolio management by securing substantial gains while maintaining long-term exposure to one of the fastest-growing digital asset firms on the market. As Circle cements its status as a major player in crypto-financial infrastructure, its stock is proving to be both a strategic bet and a source of liquidity for visionary investors like ARK.
With CRCL still climbing and ARK sitting on a sizable stake, the market will be watching closely to see if further profit-taking or renewed accumulation is next.
