In a historic move for crypto adoption in Southeast Asia, Bitget Wallet has become the first self-custody crypto wallet to natively integrate with a national QR code payment system Vietnam’s VietQR. This groundbreaking feature allows users to pay directly with crypto by scanning VietQR codes at over two million local merchants.
Crypto Payments Now Possible for Everyday Transactions
The integration, officially announced via a press release shared with crypto.news, allows Bitget Wallet users in Vietnam to scan VietQR codes and instantly pay using cryptocurrencies. From buying a bowl of pho at a street vendor to picking up groceries at a neighborhood supermarket, daily transactions can now be completed with a single crypto-powered scan.
“This isn’t just about innovation it’s about utility,” said Jamie Elkaleh, CMO of Bitget Wallet. “We’re turning crypto from an investment asset into a usable currency by embedding local payment rails directly into the wallet.”
Multi-Chain Support and Upcoming Features
Users can choose to pay using a wide variety of tokens, including stablecoins like USDT (Tether) and USDC, supported across major chains such as Ethereum, Tron, Solana, Base, TON, and BNB Chain. Bitget Wallet has confirmed plans to expand chain support in the near future.
An upcoming auto-swap feature is also set to further streamline payments by allowing users to complete transactions in any token, removing the need for prior fiat conversion or manual token swaps.
A Key Step in the PayFi Initiative
This integration marks the debut phase of Bitget Wallet’s PayFi initiative, a broader plan to support national QR payment systems across regions including Southeast Asia, Latin America, and others. Bitget’s vision is to blend decentralized finance with real-world usability by making crypto a truly accessible financial tool.
Cashback Promotion for Early Adopters
To incentivize adoption, Bitget Wallet is offering a 50% cashback on all payments made via VietQR through the wallet. The promotion is valid for the first 50,000 new users, running from June 16 through July 30.
