SharpLink Gaming just made a major splash in the crypto space. The Minneapolis-based company has secured a whopping $200 million from institutional investors, all of which will be used to bulk up its Ethereum (ETH) treasury. This move could cement SharpLink as one of the largest corporate holders of ETH in the world second only to BitMine.
What’s Going On?
On August 7, SharpLink revealed that it entered into purchase agreements with four unnamed institutional players, raising $200M via a registered direct offering of common stock priced at $19.50 per share. The deal is expected to close by August 8 and was arranged by A.G.P./Alliance Global Partners and Societe Generale, with Cantor stepping in as financial advisor.
The entire sum is being allocated to Ethereum purchases.
And this isn’t SharpLink’s first big ETH play. Just two days earlier, the company disclosed a $304 million Ethereum buy, grabbing 83,561 ETH. That brought their total stash to 521,939 ETH, worth just under $1.9 billion at current prices.
Now, with this fresh $200M, SharpLink is aiming to take its ETH treasury past the $2 billion mark an aggressive push that reflects just how serious the company is about its Ethereum-focused strategy.
Why It Matters
CEO Joseph Chalom didn’t hold back in his statement:
“SharpLink is proud to be joined by globally-recognized institutional investors, augmenting our strong existing investor base and further validating our mission to be the world’s leading ETH treasury.”
Unlike traditional firms that treat crypto as a speculative asset, SharpLink is taking a different approach. The company sees Ethereum not just as a store of value, but as an “infrastructure reserve”—a long-term play on the future of decentralized finance.
And they’re not just holding ETH they’re putting it to work. Since June, 100% of SharpLink’s ETH holdings have been staked, earning the company over $3.4 million in rewards. That creates a compounding effect: as ETH gains value, the rewards grow, which can be reinvested to buy more ETH further boosting their holdings and shareholder value.
The Bigger Picture
With these rapid moves, SharpLink has rocketed past 64 other companies tracked by SER (a service monitoring on-chain ETH corporate reserves), and now sits just behind BitMine, which holds 833,137 ETH worth nearly $3 billion.
Both companies have shown how quickly treasury strategies can scale in the crypto space. But while BitMine’s rise has been all about speed, SharpLink is playing the long game betting on Ethereum’s role as the backbone of decentralized infrastructure.
And if their current momentum continues, they may not be second place for long.
