Coinbase is expanding its decentralized finance (DeFi) offerings by bringing its Morpho-powered USDC lending product to eligible customers in Brazil.
The crypto exchange announced that Brazilian users will soon be able to access its DeFi Earn feature through the Coinbase app, allowing them to allocate USDC into an onchain lending system and earn market-driven returns without a fixed lock-up period.
The move marks another step in Coinbase’s strategy to make decentralized financial products more accessible through a familiar exchange interface.
How Coinbase’s USDC Lending Product Works
Through the Coinbase app, eligible Brazilian customers can access the lending option from the Lending tab, select the amount of USDC they want to provide, and deposit their funds into the system.
Instead of Coinbase directly managing the loans, the platform routes USDC deposits to Morpho, a decentralized lending protocol that connects lenders with borrowers.
The deposited funds are placed into a vault managed by Steakhouse Financial, which oversees the allocation of assets across different lending markets. Coinbase stated that the vault has undergone auditing to improve transparency and security.
Borrowers provide crypto assets as collateral and pay interest to access USDC liquidity. The interest generated from these loans is then distributed to lenders as returns.
Unlike traditional savings products, Coinbase does not set a fixed interest rate. The return changes based on supply and demand within Morpho’s lending markets.
No Fixed Lock-Up Period for Brazilian Users
One of the key features of Coinbase’s DeFi Earn product is flexibility.
According to the company, users can withdraw their USDC and accumulated rewards at any time. However, because the product operates through onchain lending pools, withdrawal availability can depend on market liquidity.
The returns are not guaranteed and can change over time.
When demand for borrowing USDC increases, lending rates may rise because borrowers are willing to pay more for liquidity. On the other hand, increased deposits or reduced borrowing activity can lower the available yield.
Coinbase One members may also receive additional rate benefits where available, although the company has not disclosed the exact launch rate for Brazilian customers.
Morpho Infrastructure Powers Coinbase’s DeFi Expansion
The Brazil launch builds on Coinbase’s earlier rollout of its USDC lending product in other markets.
The company first introduced the service in 2025 by using Morpho vaults deployed on Base, Coinbase’s Ethereum Layer-2 network.
The initial product gained attention after offering variable yields that reached as high as 10.8% APY during launch conditions. Coinbase later reported that the service had attracted nearly $500 million in deposits, with recent yields reaching up to around 7.4% APY.
However, these rates are not permanent. Since returns depend on lending activity, current yields can change as market conditions shift.
Coinbase has also expanded its DeFi lending options through other partnerships, including USDC vault products connected with Ethena. Different lending products may involve different collateral structures, liquidity conditions, and smart contract risks.
Coinbase Separates Lending From Standard USDC Rewards
The new lending feature operates differently from Coinbase’s existing USDC Rewards program.
While traditional USDC rewards provide returns through Coinbase’s own reward system, the Morpho-powered product sends funds into decentralized lending markets where users earn returns generated by borrowers.
Coinbase says the goal is to allow customers to make their digital assets more productive while keeping access simple through the company’s mobile application.
The platform manages the user experience, but the underlying transactions still involve smart contracts and decentralized lending pools.
This approach allows users to participate in DeFi without needing to connect external wallets or manually search for lending opportunities.
Brazil’s Growing Crypto Market Attracts Global Platforms
Coinbase’s expansion comes as Brazil continues to strengthen its position as one of Latin America’s largest cryptocurrency markets.
Brazilian regulators have recently increased oversight of digital asset companies, introducing stronger requirements around compliance, auditing, customer protection, and risk management.
The country introduced its first virtual asset framework in 2022 and later assigned greater supervisory responsibilities to the central bank.
Stablecoins have become a major part of Brazil’s crypto ecosystem, with dollar-linked digital assets increasingly used for trading, payments, and cross-border transactions.
The growing demand for stablecoins has encouraged companies to explore new financial products beyond simple cryptocurrency trading, including lending, payments, and investment services.
What Coinbase’s Brazil Expansion Means for DeFi Adoption
By bringing Morpho-powered USDC lending to Brazil, Coinbase is attempting to bridge the gap between traditional financial users and decentralized finance.
The product combines Coinbase’s regulated exchange environment with DeFi infrastructure, allowing users to access blockchain-based lending without managing complex tools themselves.
However, users should understand that DeFi lending carries risks, including smart contract vulnerabilities, changing interest rates, and liquidity limitations.
As crypto adoption continues growing in Brazil, Coinbase’s move highlights the increasing competition among exchanges and DeFi platforms to provide more advanced financial services.
The expansion also shows how stablecoins like USDC are becoming central to the next phase of digital finance, where users can access lending, savings, and investment opportunities through blockchain-based systems.
