Solana (SOL) has surged to $226, its highest price since February, extending a powerful rally that’s seen the token climb more than 135% since April. With ETF approvals on the horizon and a major network upgrade set for 2026, traders are increasingly eyeing Solana as a candidate for fresh all-time highs.
ETF Approvals Could Be the Game-Changer
Much of the excitement comes from the upcoming deadlines for Solana exchange-traded funds (ETFs). The SEC is expected to rule on proposals from firms like Bitwise and Canary by October 16.
According to Polymarket, the odds of approval before year-end are above 90%—a figure bolstered by the SEC’s earlier greenlight for Ethereum ETFs, which have already attracted more than $13 billion in inflows.
Early demand signals are strong, too. The Rex-Osprey Sol + Staking ETF has pulled in more than $230 million in assets in just two months, suggesting that investor appetite for Solana-based funds could mirror Ethereum’s breakout success.
Alpenglow Upgrade: A Leap in Speed
Beyond ETFs, Solana’s Alpenglow upgrade, scheduled for Q1 2026, could be another major catalyst. The upgrade will overhaul the network’s consensus mechanisms, replacing Proof-of-History and TowerBFT with the votor/rotor system.
This will push Solana’s throughput from 65,000 transactions per second to 100,000, while cutting transaction finality from 12.8 seconds to just 100–150 milliseconds. Historically, cryptocurrencies tend to rally ahead of such transformative upgrades.
Technical Picture: Bullish Momentum Builds
On the daily chart, Solana has flipped a critical resistance level at $210, which had capped previous rallies in July. It has also formed a golden cross a bullish signal where the 50-day moving average crosses above the 200-day and its Average Directional Index (ADX) has climbed to 30, showing strong trend momentum.
Adding to the bullish case, SOL remains well above the Ichimoku cloud, another indicator of underlying strength. With these signals aligned, analysts say the path of least resistance is upward, with the next major target being Solana’s all-time high of $295.
