AEON has raised $8 million in a pre-seed funding round to build payment infrastructure for the growing AI economy.
The round was led by YZi Labs, the venture arm linked to Binance, with participation from IDG Capital, HashKey Capital, Stanford Blockchain Builders Fund, Oak Grove Ventures, and other investors. AEON did not disclose its valuation.
The company says the new funding will help it build an AI-native payment and settlement layer. In simple terms, AEON wants AI agents to be able to send, receive, and settle payments without needing constant human involvement.
AEON Targets the Agentic Economy
AEON is building infrastructure for what many in crypto and AI now call the agentic economy. This refers to a future where AI agents can complete tasks, buy services, pay for tools, manage subscriptions, and interact with businesses on behalf of users.
The company says its platform is designed to support high-frequency microtransactions, on-chain agent identity, and global fiat settlement. These features could allow AI systems to pay for APIs, digital services, online access, and even real-world purchases.
AEON has already launched its first AI payment product. According to the company, the product allows AI agents to connect with more than 50 million physical merchants around the world through existing payment partner integrations.
This means AI agents could eventually handle point-of-sale payments, online transactions, and recurring subscriptions while hiding the blockchain complexity from merchants and everyday users.
x402 Turns Web Requests Into Payment Actions
A major part of AEON’s system is its x402 protocol.
The protocol is based on the old HTTP status code “402 Payment Required,” which was created for online payments but was never widely used. AEON is now turning that idea into a practical payment tool for AI agents.
With x402, an AI agent can interact with a website or online service, receive a payment request, make a stablecoin payment, and unlock access automatically. This allows payments to be built directly into normal web interactions.
For example, an AI assistant could pay for data, access a premium API, subscribe to a service, or complete a digital checkout process without a human manually approving every small transaction.
BNB Chain Adds On-Chain Settlement
AEON has also partnered with BNB Chain to deploy its x402 Facilitator.
The Facilitator adds on-chain settlement, transaction verification, and permanent receipts to agent-driven payments. Each transaction is checked for authenticity and compliance before being finalized on BNB Chain.
Once completed, the payment creates an on-chain receipt. This receipt can include the AI agent’s identity, making the transaction easier to audit, verify, and reconcile later.
This is important because AI payments will need trust and transparency. If an autonomous system makes a payment, businesses and users need a clear record of who paid, what was paid for, and whether the transaction followed the correct rules.
Why AEON’s Funding Matters
The $8 million round shows growing investor interest in payment systems built specifically for AI agents.
As AI assistants become more advanced, they may need to do more than answer questions. They may need to buy tools, access paid data, book services, renew software, or pay vendors. Traditional payment systems were not designed for large numbers of autonomous agents making small, fast, programmable transactions.
That is the gap AEON is trying to fill.
By combining AI payments, blockchain settlement, stablecoins, and merchant integrations, the AEON AI payment network aims to become a bridge between autonomous AI systems and real-world commerce.
For now, the project is still early. But with support from YZi Labs and other major investors, AEON is positioning itself as one of the first infrastructure players focused on letting AI agents transact across both digital services and physical merchants.
