South Korea’s largest crypto exchange, Upbit, is set to list the SUN token—the governance token of the SunPump platform as part of its accelerated token expansion strategy to maintain dominance over rival Bithumb.
Upbit Adds SUN to Its Growing Lineup
Trading for SUN will open on September 22 at 12:00 KST, with pairs available in KRW and USDT. Deposits and withdrawals will be supported exclusively via the TRON network.
The move strengthens SUN’s presence on global markets, joining a roster of major exchanges where it’s already listed, including Binance, Bybit, HTX, Gate.io, Bithumb, KuCoin, and MEXC.
Upbit’s decision reflects its ongoing effort to stay ahead of competitors, particularly Bithumb, which has seen a rise in trading activity. According to Seoul Economic Daily, Upbit has been fast-tracking token listings in recent weeks to secure its lead.
What Is the SUN Token?
Launched in August 2024, SUN is the governance token for SunPump, a memecoin launchpad and trading hub built on TRON (TRX). The token allows holders to:
- Participate in the Sun DAO and vote on key platform decisions.
- Stake tokens, including long-term veSUN staking, to earn rewards.
- Pay platform fees and access premium features.
- Join early token launches hosted on SunPump.
In addition, SunPump allocates 100% of its protocol revenue to buy back and burn SUN tokens—bolstering its deflationary model and reinforcing its role in the TRON ecosystem.
