In a shocking breach of digital security, Solana Labs co-founder and president Raj Gokal became the latest victim of a high-profile doxxing incident after hackers reportedly compromised the official Instagram account of U.S. hip-hop group Migos on May 27. The attackers posted a series of images revealing Gokal’s personal documents and private contact details to an audience of over 13 million followers.
Among the seven now-deleted images were unredacted pictures of Gokal’s driver’s license and passport, as well as an image of a woman allegedly his wife holding her own identification. One of the posts contained Gokal’s personal phone number, urging followers to “spam” him, marking a clear case of doxxing.
Most disturbingly, the hackers appeared to attempt extortion, with one post tagging Gokal’s Instagram account and including a threatening message: “you should’ve paid the 40 BTC.” Based on current market rates, 40 Bitcoin amounts to approximately $4.3 million.
This incident follows a warning Gokal issued just a week earlier via his X (formerly Twitter) account. He cautioned followers that malicious actors were actively trying to compromise his email, social media accounts, and other digital platforms like Apple and Google. In the tweet, he urged users to be cautious about any suspicious activity that could signal a breach.
“Attackers have been trying to take control of my email, social media, Google, Apple, etc. this past week. If you see anything suspect (token launch, soliciting funds, etc) that means they got through,” Gokal warned on X.
Despite the alarming leak, neither Gokal nor the official Solana account has commented publicly on the Migos Instagram breach as of press time. The compromising posts were removed by 5:12 AM UTC.
This incident adds to a troubling pattern of social media account takeovers in the crypto community. In recent months, hackers have successfully targeted prominent platforms such as meme coin launchpad Pump.fun and crypto news outlet Watcher Guru, using the accounts to promote fraudulent tokens and misinformation.
As threats against crypto executives and platforms escalate, the Solana community and broader Web3 space are once again reminded of the pressing need for enhanced cybersecurity and proactive digital hygiene.
