Aster (ASTER) has slipped below its key $1 threshold, even as the project announced its first-ever token burn plan, pledging to permanently remove 50% of all tokens acquired through buybacks. The move, designed to boost scarcity and long-term value, has yet to inspire immediate price recovery as traders await clearer market signals.
Aster Launches First Buyback and Burn Plan
In a major update, Aster DEX confirmed it will begin burning 50% of all tokens purchased through its ongoing Season 2 and Season 3 buyback rounds, marking the project’s first official burn initiative.
The remaining 50% of the tokens will be locked in airdrop vaults for future community distributions, effectively removing them from circulation while preserving flexibility for later reward campaigns.
According to the team’s statement, the tokens will be burned directly from Aster’s public buyback address, reducing the circulating supply, which currently sits at around 2 billion ASTER.
“Future buyback and burn mechanisms will continue to evolve, reinforcing Aster’s commitment to sustainable growth and long-term value creation,” the Aster team said in a recent post.
Market Reaction: Price Slips Despite Positive Tokenomics
Despite the token burn announcement, Aster price dropped 2.8% to around $0.98, slipping below the symbolic $1 mark that had served as key psychological support.
The decline suggests traders are taking a wait-and-see approach, preferring evidence of lasting price momentum before reentering the market.
Aster has now fallen nearly 59% from its October high of $2.20, extending its broader downtrend through late October.
Data from BSC Scan shows Aster’s buyback wallet currently holds around $10.6 million in assets including $10.1 million worth of ASTER tokens alongside smaller allocations in Binance-Peg BSC-USD, Tutorial (TUT), and Thena (THE) tokens.
Buybacks, Airdrops, and the Path Forward
The Aster DEX team emphasized that its buyback and burn strategy will remain dynamic and flexible, evolving with each phase of its roadmap.
Earlier this month, Aster revealed that 70–80% of Season 3 trading fees would be allocated toward token buybacks with final figures to be disclosed after the current season concludes.
The project conducted its latest buyback on October 11, purchasing 100 million ASTER tokens from the market. Based on current prices, those tokens are valued at approximately $98.9 million.
This renewed buyback commitment, combined with the burn mechanism, aims to reduce circulating supply and gradually increase token scarcity a move that could strengthen fundamentals over time if sustained.
Price Analysis: Traders Watching the $1 Zone
At the time of writing, Aster (ASTER) trades around $0.99, hovering just below the key $1 psychological level.
The token’s 30-day moving average currently sits near $0.94, serving as short-term resistance. A close above that level could mark the beginning of a short-term reversal, while continued weakness below $1 could open the door to further downside toward the $0.80 support region.
The Relative Strength Index (RSI) has recovered to around 61, signaling moderate bullish momentum after recent oversold conditions. Sustained RSI readings above 60 would strengthen the case for a rebound, though a drop back below 50 could indicate renewed bearish pressure.
Adding to the uncertainty, fake reports recently circulated claiming Binance founder Changpeng Zhao had dumped 35 million ASTER tokens. Zhao quickly debunked the rumor, calling the screenshots “photoshopped,” but the false claims likely contributed to temporary market jitters.
Investor Outlook: Patience Over Panic
While Aster’s 50% token burn marks an important step toward long-term sustainability, immediate market reaction remains subdued.
Analysts suggest that investors are looking for follow-through on execution both in the buyback plan and in Aster’s upcoming ecosystem expansions before expecting a full price recovery.
If the team maintains its buyback cadence and transparency, the project could rebuild confidence among traders and position itself for renewed momentum once broader market conditions stabilize.
