Ethereum moved back above the important $1,900 level on Aug. 6 as renewed spot-market demand and short liquidations helped buyers extend the latest recovery.
ETH traded near $1,908 after reaching an intraday high of approximately $1,920. Although the rebound has strengthened the short-term outlook, Ethereum still faces major resistance between $1,925 and $1,965 before it can make a serious attempt to break above $2,000.
Technical indicators currently favor buyers, but slowing momentum suggests the next move may depend on whether trading volume increases around the resistance zone.
Ethereum Price Holds Above $1,900
Ethereum recovered from an intraday low near $1,895 and climbed back above the psychological $1,900 level.
The move followed several days of consolidation and appears to have been supported by stronger spot buying. Traders positioned for further declines were also forced to close some short positions as ETH moved higher, adding additional buying pressure.
However, the token had not yet moved above its recent swing highs. This means the latest advance remains part of an ongoing recovery attempt rather than a confirmed breakout.
Holding above $1,900 would allow buyers to focus on the next resistance levels near $1,925, $1,950 and $1,965.
Buyers Continue Defending Fibonacci Support
Ethereum’s daily chart shows that the token has established support above the 38.2% Fibonacci retracement level at approximately $1,856.62.
This level is calculated from Ethereum’s June low of $1,505.42 to its April peak of $2,424.78.
ETH has repeatedly stayed above $1,856 since the middle of July, showing that buyers remain active when the price moves toward this area.
However, Ethereum has also struggled to maintain gains above the $1,920 to $1,965 region. Repeated rejections from this zone have prevented the token from developing a stronger upward trend.
The price is therefore trading inside a broad consolidation range between approximately $1,856 and $1,965.
A confirmed breakout above or below this range could determine Ethereum’s next major direction.
The $1,965 Level Is the Main Barrier
The most important resistance currently sits near $1,965.
This area represents the 50% Fibonacci retracement level on the daily chart and has repeatedly limited Ethereum’s recovery.
A daily close above $1,965 would strengthen the bullish setup and make a move toward $2,000 more likely.
The $2,000 level is important because round-number prices often attract significant buying and selling activity. Some traders may take profits near this area, while others may enter the market only after a confirmed breakout.
If Ethereum clears both $1,965 and $2,000, the next major Fibonacci resistance would sit near $2,073.58.
Aroon Indicator Continues to Favor Buyers
Ethereum’s daily Aroon indicator suggests that buyers still have an advantage.
Aroon Up stood at approximately 64.29%, while Aroon Down was near 28.57%.
The indicator measures how recently an asset has recorded new highs or new lows within a selected period.
A higher Aroon Up reading shows that recent highs are having a greater influence on the current trend than recent lows.
This supports the idea that Ethereum remains in a broader recovery, even though it has not yet broken through the resistance preventing a move toward $2,000.
Bullish Momentum Is Starting to Slow
Ethereum’s Awesome Oscillator remained positive at approximately 23.53.
A reading above zero generally shows that short-term momentum is stronger than longer-term momentum, which supports the bullish outlook.
However, the oscillator’s green bars had started to become smaller.
Contracting bars can indicate that buying momentum is weakening as the price approaches resistance.
This does not automatically mean Ethereum will fall. It suggests buyers may need stronger trading volume, renewed spot demand or another wave of short liquidations to push the price above $1,965.
Without those factors, ETH could remain inside its current consolidation range.
Four-Hour Structure Remains Bullish
Ethereum’s four-hour chart offers a more positive short-term signal.
ETH remains above its Supertrend support near $1,842.44, while the indicator continues to show a bullish trend.
The Supertrend level acts as dynamic support. As long as Ethereum remains above it, the immediate recovery structure stays intact.
A decline below $1,842 would weaken the bullish setup and suggest that sellers are regaining control.
The four-hour Chaikin Money Flow indicator also moved above zero to approximately 0.07.
A positive reading suggests that buying pressure is beginning to exceed selling pressure. However, the modest value shows that accumulation is not yet especially strong.
Liquidation Clusters Could Accelerate the Move
Ethereum’s next move may be influenced by leveraged positions in the derivatives market.
A three-day liquidation heatmap showed a concentration of short positions between approximately $1,925 and $1,950.
If Ethereum rises into this area, some short sellers may be forced to close their positions by buying ETH.
This process, known as a short squeeze, can create additional demand and cause the price to rise more quickly.
A move through the $1,925 to $1,950 zone could therefore help Ethereum challenge the important resistance at $1,965.
However, liquidation zones do not guarantee a breakout. The same area could also attract profit-taking and renewed selling.
Downside Liquidity Remains Near $1,856
The heatmap also showed significant liquidity below Ethereum’s current price.
Important downside concentrations appeared near $1,870 and between approximately $1,850 and $1,860.
These zones could attract the price if Ethereum loses support at $1,900.
The $1,856 area is especially important because it combines Fibonacci support with a concentration of leveraged positions.
A decline below this level could trigger long liquidations and push ETH toward the four-hour Supertrend near $1,842.
If both $1,856 and $1,842 fail, the next major downside area would sit near $1,800.
What Ethereum Needs to Reach $2,000
Ethereum must complete several steps before a move above $2,000 becomes more likely.
The first requirement is maintaining support above $1,900. Losing this level would weaken the immediate bullish momentum and return attention to the lower support zones.
The second challenge is breaking through the liquidation cluster between $1,925 and $1,950.
The final major barrier is the Fibonacci resistance near $1,965.
A four-hour or daily close above $1,965, supported by stronger trading volume, would provide much clearer evidence that buyers are ready to test $2,000.
Until then, Ethereum remains inside a resistance zone that has already rejected several recovery attempts since mid-July.
Analyst Says ETH Must Protect the Breakout
Market analyst Ted Pillows said Ethereum needs to remain above $1,900 to maintain its chances of reaching $2,000.
The analysis matches the current technical structure.
Holding above $1,900 would preserve the latest breakout and allow ETH to continue challenging nearby resistance.
A temporary move below the level would not necessarily end the recovery, but repeated closes beneath it could indicate that the breakout has failed.
Investors may therefore focus more on Ethereum’s daily closing price than brief intraday movements around $1,900.
Spot Buying Remains Important
Renewed spot demand contributed to Ethereum’s recovery.
Spot-market purchases are generally viewed as more sustainable than price movements driven entirely by leverage because buyers are acquiring the actual asset rather than opening derivatives positions.
If spot demand continues increasing as ETH approaches $1,965, the breakout may have a stronger foundation.
If buying weakens and the move depends mainly on short liquidations, Ethereum could struggle to hold its gains once those positions have been closed.
Trading volume will therefore be an important signal during any attempt to break above $2,000.
Broader Markets Could Affect Ethereum
Ethereum’s price may also be influenced by conditions outside the cryptocurrency market.
ETH has remained sensitive to movements in major U.S. technology stocks and changes in investor risk appetite.
A recovery in equities could support demand for speculative assets such as Ethereum.
However, expectations of tighter monetary policy from the Federal Reserve could place renewed pressure on cryptocurrencies.
Investors are watching the Federal Reserve’s September meeting for signals about interest rates and financial conditions.
Higher rates or reduced expectations of monetary easing could weaken demand for risk assets. Improving liquidity and stronger equity-market sentiment could support another Ethereum rally.
Bullish Scenario for Ethereum
The bullish scenario depends on Ethereum holding above $1,900 and continuing to attract spot demand.
A move above $1,925 could begin triggering short liquidations.
Clearing $1,950 would place ETH directly below the major $1,965 resistance.
A confirmed close above $1,965 could then open the way toward $2,000.
If buyers also break the psychological barrier, the next target would sit near $2,073.
This scenario would become more convincing if Ethereum records rising volume and stronger momentum readings during the breakout.
Bearish Scenario for Ethereum
The bearish scenario would begin with Ethereum losing the $1,900 level.
Such a move could attract the price toward liquidity near $1,870 and Fibonacci support at $1,856.
A close below $1,856 would weaken the current consolidation structure and expose the four-hour Supertrend near $1,842.
If that support also fails, sellers may target the lower liquidity zone around $1,800.
A breakdown below $1,800 would significantly weaken the recovery and delay the immediate attempt to return above $2,000.
Can Ethereum Bulls Break $2,000?
Ethereum’s latest recovery has improved the short-term outlook, but buyers still have important work to do.
The token has reclaimed $1,900, spot demand has strengthened and short-term indicators continue to favor bulls.
However, resistance between $1,925 and $1,965 remains the main obstacle.
A confirmed close above $1,965 would provide the strongest signal that Ethereum is ready to challenge $2,000.
Until that happens, ETH remains inside a consolidation range where either buyers or sellers could regain control.
The bullish structure will remain intact while Ethereum holds above $1,856 and the four-hour Supertrend support near $1,842.
