Web3 projects are facing a new communications problem: there is now too much content and not enough attention.
According to Formula by Cointelegraph Head of PR Katerina Zemskova, the crypto PR industry is struggling with what she calls “press-release blindness.” Many projects still spend heavily on media distribution campaigns, but the results often look better on paper than they do in real business impact.
The problem has grown worse as AI tools make it easier to produce large amounts of similar-looking content. Announcements, updates, launch posts, and generic project news now flood crypto media every day. As a result, investors, users, and partners are becoming less responsive to traditional press-release campaigns.
AI Has Changed the Web3 PR Game
AI has made content creation faster, cheaper, and easier. But that has also made basic content less valuable.
Zemskova said that publishing at high volume no longer helps projects stand out because everyone can now do it. In her view, crypto companies need two types of communication. Some content should be structured for search engines, AI tools, and news aggregators. Other content should be written for real people, with personality, clarity, and a reason to keep reading.
This is especially important in Web3, where trust is already difficult to build. If every project sounds the same, audiences may ignore the message completely.
Generic Crypto PR Is Losing Impact
Traditional crypto PR often depends on fixed packages, press-release distribution, and monthly retainers. But Zemskova argued that this model is becoming less effective.
A clean-looking report with media placements does not always mean the campaign helped the business. A project may appear in several outlets, but if the content feels generic, it may not attract investors, users, partners, or community support.
That is why Web3 teams are being pushed to think beyond basic visibility. They need stronger narratives that explain who is behind the project, why it matters, and how it fits into the current market.
Founder-Led Narratives Are Becoming More Important
One of the biggest shifts in Web3 PR strategy is the move toward founder-led communication.
Instead of hiding behind corporate language, projects can build trust by putting real people forward. Founders, engineers, researchers, and product leaders can explain the mission in a more human way.
This approach helps audiences see that there are real people behind the product. It also makes the project easier to remember.
In Web3, where many users are cautious because of scams, failed projects, and hype cycles, a human voice can be more powerful than another polished announcement.
Crypto PR Must Follow Market Cycles
Crypto markets move quickly, and PR strategies need to move with them.
Zemskova said agencies should avoid locking projects into the same 12-month package. A campaign that works during a token launch may not work during a bear market, regulatory debate, or institutional adoption cycle.
One month, a project may need AMAs and podcast appearances. Another month, it may need opinion columns, KOL campaigns, or targeted press coverage before a token generation event.
The key is flexibility. Web3 communication should match the project’s stage, market conditions, and audience needs.
Reputation Is Now a Strategic Asset
For crypto companies, reputation is not just marketing. It can affect fundraising, hiring, partnerships, exchange relationships, and regulatory conversations.
A project with a clear message, trusted leadership, and consistent communication may have a better chance of attracting serious attention. A project that relies only on generic press releases may struggle to convert visibility into real growth.
The rise of AI-generated content has made this even more important. As the market becomes crowded with automated posts and repetitive announcements, trust and originality matter more.
For Web3 projects, the lesson is clear: PR can no longer be treated as simple distribution. It needs to be strategic, human, flexible, and connected to real business goals.
