Ethereum continues to trade around the $1,750 mark as investors remain cautious amid escalating tensions in the Middle East and ongoing uncertainty surrounding U.S. crypto regulation. While buyers have successfully defended key support levels, repeated failures to break above $1,800 suggest that the market is still waiting for a stronger catalyst before the next major move.
With both technical resistance and global macroeconomic risks weighing on sentiment, Ethereum remains trapped in a narrow trading range that could soon produce a decisive breakout or breakdown.
Ethereum struggles to reclaim $1,800
According to crypto.news market data, Ethereum was trading near $1,756 on Wednesday after several unsuccessful attempts to move above the $1,800 resistance zone during the past week.
The latest rejection followed renewed geopolitical tensions after reports that the United States carried out airstrikes on Iranian military targets in response to attacks on civilian shipping near the Strait of Hormuz. The conflict pushed investors toward traditional safe-haven assets such as the U.S. dollar and gold, reducing demand for riskier investments, including cryptocurrencies.
At the same time, diplomatic negotiations between the two countries remain stalled, adding another layer of uncertainty to global financial markets.
Regulatory uncertainty keeps institutions cautious
Ethereum is also facing headwinds from the regulatory side.
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission recently updated its 2026 regulatory agenda, introducing proposals related to crypto safe harbors, broker-dealer capital requirements, and alternative trading systems.
Although the new proposals suggest a more structured approach to cryptocurrency regulation, many institutional investors are waiting for greater legal clarity, particularly regarding the progress of the CLARITY Act, before increasing their exposure to digital assets.
Technical charts show a tight trading range
Ethereum continues to trade within a well-defined range between $1,750 and $1,800.
On the four-hour chart, buyers have repeatedly defended the $1,750 support area, while sellers continue rejecting every attempt to push prices above $1,800–$1,850.
Crypto analyst Daan Crypto Trades noted that Ethereum has now failed to break the $1,800 resistance level four times in the past week, highlighting its importance as the key barrier for bulls.
A decisive move beyond either side of the range could determine Ethereum’s next major trend.
Technical indicators remain mixed
Ethereum’s broader technical picture continues to send conflicting signals.
The cryptocurrency has managed to break above the descending trendline that had limited price growth since May and is currently trading above the important 78.6% Fibonacci retracement level near $1,703.
Several indicators also suggest that buyers are still active:
- Chaikin Money Flow remains positive, indicating fresh capital continues entering the market.
- The Aroon indicator still favors buyers over sellers.
- Ethereum remains above important short-term support levels.
However, momentum has slowed in recent sessions.
The MACD histogram on the four-hour chart has turned negative, while the Relative Strength Index (RSI) has moved back toward neutral territory after briefly approaching overbought conditions earlier this month.
Liquidation zones could trigger the next major move
Derivatives data suggests volatility could increase significantly if Ethereum breaks out of its current range.
According to CoinGlass, one of the largest clusters of short liquidations sits between $1,770 and $1,850.
If ETH manages to close above this region, forced buying from short sellers could accelerate the rally toward the $2,000 psychological level.
On the downside, large long liquidation zones have formed near $1,720 and $1,700. Losing these support levels could trigger another wave of selling pressure.
Ethereum still faces long-term ecosystem challenges
Beyond price action, Ethereum continues to face structural challenges within its own ecosystem.
Much of the network’s activity has shifted toward Layer-2 solutions and competing Layer-1 blockchains, reducing activity on Ethereum’s main network.
Lower transaction fees have also reduced ETH’s burn rate, while decentralized finance activity remains well below the highs seen during previous market cycles.
Even Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin’s recently introduced Lean Ethereum roadmap—which focuses on scalability, privacy, and quantum-resistant security through 2029—has yet to generate a meaningful market reaction.
Can Ethereum recover toward $2,000?
Despite the current weakness, some analysts remain optimistic.
Crypto analyst Ted Pillows believes Ethereum still has room for a recovery as long as it continues holding above the $1,750 support level. According to his analysis, maintaining this price zone could allow ETH to stage a relief rally toward $2,000.
However, if Ethereum falls below $1,750, sellers may quickly target $1,720, followed by the important $1,700 support area.
Further escalation in geopolitical tensions, rising oil prices, or additional delays in U.S. crypto legislation could increase selling pressure and postpone Ethereum’s next breakout attempt.
