Bitcoin price continued consolidating above the important $80,000 support level this week as traders closely watched a major bullish technical signal forming on the daily chart. Improving institutional demand, stronger regulatory sentiment, and a potential golden cross setup are now fueling speculation that Bitcoin could eventually move toward the long-awaited $100,000 level.
Bitcoin traded near $80,500 on May 15 after briefly rallying above $81,800 earlier in the session. Despite ongoing market volatility, BTC has remained nearly 32% above its February lows near $61,000, showing that buyers continue defending the broader uptrend structure.
One of the key catalysts supporting sentiment is renewed optimism surrounding crypto regulation in the United States. The proposed CLARITY Act has continued advancing through the Senate process, with many investors viewing the legislation as an important step toward clearer digital asset regulations and stronger institutional participation.
Institutional demand has also returned through spot Bitcoin ETFs. According to SoSoValue data, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded roughly $131 million in net inflows on Thursday, sharply reversing the previous day’s $635 million in outflows that briefly weakened sentiment earlier in the week.
The recovery in ETF inflows helped stabilize confidence across the market and reinforced the view that long-term institutional demand for Bitcoin remains strong despite short-term volatility.
At the same time, some analysts believe investors are gradually rotating capital from traditional safe-haven assets like gold and silver into Bitcoin as concerns over inflation, sovereign debt, and fiat currency weakness continue growing globally.
Bitcoin has also shown relative strength compared to several major Asian stock indexes. While markets such as Japan’s Nikkei 225 and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index struggled under macroeconomic pressure, Bitcoin continued maintaining its higher-low structure.
However, broader risks still remain. Rising oil prices and geopolitical tensions have increased inflation concerns again, which has slightly reduced overall risk appetite among traders.
From a technical perspective, Bitcoin’s chart structure continues favoring the bulls. The 50-day simple moving average is now approaching a crossover above the 200-day SMA, creating what traders call a golden cross.
A golden cross is widely considered a bullish long-term signal and has historically appeared before major Bitcoin rallies during previous market cycles.
Bitcoin also continues trading above several key moving averages while holding firmly above the $80,000 psychological support region. The Supertrend indicator remains bullish near the $75,500 area, suggesting buyers still control the broader trend.
Momentum indicators remain positive overall, although the MACD histogram has flattened slightly as Bitcoin consolidates below resistance.
If bulls successfully reclaim the recent swing high near $82,300, Bitcoin could attempt another move toward the major resistance zone between $85,000 and $88,000. A strong breakout above that region may eventually open the door toward the psychological $100,000 target.
On the downside, losing the $80,000 support area could weaken the current structure and expose Bitcoin to a deeper correction toward the $76,000 to $75,500 range.
