Japanese gaming company CyberStep, the name behind the popular online claw machine game “Toreba,” is venturing into the world of crypto in a big way. The company has launched a new business unit called CRYPTECH Capital, which will focus on building up a stash of Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) using a unique approach rooted in its gaming ecosystem.
According to a report from CoinDesk Japan, CyberStep has set up CRYPTECH Capital as a dedicated crypto treasury operation. Rather than raising funds through traditional methods like issuing stock or attracting external investors, the company is betting on a concept it calls the “self-circulating token economy.”
Here’s how it works: CyberStep plans to create and promote its own in-game tokens through its web3 gaming services. These tokens will then be converted into major cryptocurrencies like BTC and ETH. The acquired crypto assets will be held on the company’s balance sheet and classified as “corporate assets,” forming a strategic reserve that CyberStep hopes will grow in value over time.
To kick things off, the company is allocating 200 million yen (around $1.38 million) from its own funds as an initial budget for crypto purchases during the fiscal year ending in May 2026. Over time, it plans to expand this reserve to as much as 1 billion yen (approximately $6.9 million), though the company has indicated that market conditions could influence the final amount.
One example of CyberStep’s “self-circulating token” strategy is the Eggle Energy token ($ENG), launched last April. This token is tied to a blockchain-based game called Eggle and an accompanying NFT project that’s currently in development.
Beyond its own tokens, CRYPTECH Capital is also exploring opportunities to invest in promising meme coins and other tokens within the web3 and gaming ecosystems.
“The company plans to achieve both capital gains from rising asset prices and income gains through staking and providing liquidity to DeFi protocols across its portfolio,” CyberStep said in a translated press release.
CyberStep isn’t alone in making this kind of move. Swedish gaming company Fragbite recently announced plans to build its own crypto treasury focused exclusively on Bitcoin, investing corporate funds into acquiring the digital asset as a reserve.
CyberStep’s foray into crypto signals how gaming companies are increasingly weaving blockchain technology into their business models not just for gameplay innovation but also as part of their financial strategies. It’s yet another example of how the lines between gaming, digital assets, and corporate finance are becoming ever more intertwined.
