It’s been a big quarter for Bitcoin and an even bigger one for MARA Holdings. Formerly known as Marathon Digital, the Bitcoin mining giant just released its second-quarter 2025 earnings, and the numbers are nothing short of impressive.
Bitcoin Boom Powers Strong Earnings
With Bitcoin hovering near all-time highs and energy prices easing, MARA Holdings found itself in a sweet spot. The company reported $238 million in revenue, marking a 64% jump year-over-year, primarily driven by its mining operations. The surge in Bitcoin’s average price up 50% from Q2 last year directly boosted MARA’s bottom line.
But the real standout was the $808.2 million net income, a massive turnaround from the $199.7 million loss reported in Q2 2024. The bulk of that income came from unrealized gains on MARA’s growing Bitcoin stash over $1.2 billion worth.
BTC Holdings Cross 50,000
MARA isn’t just mining Bitcoin it’s hoarding it. The firm’s BTC holdings jumped 170% this quarter, reaching 49,951 BTC by the end of June and crossing the 50,000 BTC mark shortly after. That puts MARA in second place among public companies holding Bitcoin just behind Strategy.
What sets MARA apart? Unlike most miners, the company doesn’t sell its Bitcoin to cover costs. Instead, it treats BTC as a strategic treasury reserve, banking on long-term value growth. MARA also frequently issues stock to buy more BTC, a tactic that aligns with its long-term accumulation strategy.
Bitcoin’s New Role in Corporate Finance
As U.S. regulations have matured, Bitcoin has gone from speculative asset to treasury staple. MARA is leading the charge, giving investors direct exposure to the world’s largest crypto asset without needing to buy BTC themselves.
Whether you’re watching the markets or following Bitcoin’s institutional journey, MARA’s latest numbers are a strong signal: corporate crypto treasuries are here to stay and growing fast.
