Solana Foundation and Google Cloud have introduced Pay.sh, a new stablecoin-powered payment gateway designed to let AI agents pay for APIs and cloud services instantly on a per-request basis.
The launch marks another major step toward enabling autonomous AI systems to transact online without relying on traditional billing models, subscriptions, or developer accounts.
Solana and Google Bring Stablecoin Payments to AI Infrastructure
Pay.sh allows AI agents to access and pay for services such as Google Cloud APIs, Gemini, Vertex AI, BigQuery, and dozens of third-party APIs using stablecoins on the Solana blockchain.
Instead of signing up for monthly subscriptions or maintaining prepaid balances, developers can now charge AI agents for individual API requests, even for amounts worth less than a cent.
This opens the door for a more flexible and efficient pricing model where AI agents only pay for the exact services they use.
How Pay.sh Works
The platform operates through an API proxy hosted on Google Cloud. When an AI agent wants to use a service:
- It discovers available APIs
- Checks pricing in real time
- Pays using a Solana wallet
- Gains instant access after payment confirmation
Solana says the wallet functions as both the payment mechanism and the identity layer, removing the need for API keys, user accounts, or manual billing setups.
Powered by x402 and Machine Payments Protocol
Pay.sh uses x402, an open payment standard originally created at Coinbase and later moved under the Linux Foundation.
The protocol leverages the HTTP 402 Payment Required status code, allowing apps and AI agents to trigger payments directly through web requests.
The platform also integrates the Machine Payments Protocol (MPP) developed by Tempo and Stripe, providing additional infrastructure for machine-to-machine transactions.
Solana Joins Growing AI Payment Race
With Pay.sh, Solana Foundation joins a fast-growing list of firms building payment rails for AI agents, including:
- Coinbase
- Google Cloud
- Stripe
- MoonPay
Solana’s low transaction fees and fast settlement times make it particularly suited for the tiny, high-frequency payments required by AI agents interacting with APIs.
Industry Momentum Around AI Agent Payments
The Pay.sh launch follows recent momentum from other major players:
- Coinbase launched Agentic.market, enabling AI agents to purchase services using USDC via x402
- Google introduced Agent Payments Protocol (AP2) with crypto integrations from Coinbase, the Ethereum Foundation, and MetaMask
- MoonPay launched MoonAgents Card for AI-linked stablecoin spending through virtual Mastercard rails
As AI systems become more autonomous, infrastructure like Pay.sh could help create a new machine-driven economy where software agents transact directly with online services.
Why This Matters
The launch of Pay.sh highlights how stablecoins are increasingly being positioned as the payment layer for AI-powered internet services.
By enabling AI agents to make instant, low-cost payments for digital services, Solana and Google are helping lay the foundation for an internet where autonomous software can buy, sell, and interact economically without human intervention.
