Bitmine (BMNR) may be on the verge of a major move as Ethereum, its largest asset holding, flirts with a potential breakout toward $5,000 and beyond.
Ethereum Holdings Boost Valuation
On Monday, September 29, Bitmine revealed that it now holds about 2.65 million ETH, valued at more than $11 billion at current prices. That’s well above the company’s own market capitalization of $9 billion.
Chairman Tom Lee reinforced Bitmine’s long-term strategy, saying:
“We continue to believe Ethereum is one of the biggest macro trades over the next 10–15 years. Wall Street and AI moving onto the blockchain should lead to a greater transformation of today’s financial system. And the majority of this is taking place on Ethereum.”
Despite these holdings, Bitmine’s stock has traded sideways in recent weeks at around $53, far below its all-time high of $160.
Ethereum Price Setup: A Bullish Flag
Ethereum itself has been consolidating after pulling back from its 2024 high of $4,950 to about $4,170. Importantly, ETH remains above the 50-day moving average and continues to respect support around $4,106 — the December 2023 high and the upper edge of a previous cup-and-handle pattern.
Chart watchers highlight ETH’s bullish flag pattern, a classic continuation signal. If the pattern plays out, Ethereum could retest $4,950 and aim higher. A break below $3,930, however, would weaken the outlook.
Why This Matters for Bitmine
As Ethereum’s largest corporate holder, Bitmine’s stock performance is tightly tied to ETH’s price. A rally to $5,000 would push Bitmine’s holdings to roughly $13.25 billion, creating a significant gap between asset value and current market capitalization.
The company has also been buying back its own shares, reducing outstanding stock and potentially amplifying gains if Ethereum rises.
Still, risks remain. Appetite for corporate treasury crypto holdings has cooled recently, with peers like Strategy and Metaplanet seeing their shares fall over 30% from this year’s highs.
The Bottom Line
Bitmine’s stock is at a crossroads. With Ethereum’s technicals pointing to a potential breakout and the company sitting on billions in ETH, the upside case is clear. But lingering risks in investor appetite for crypto treasury stocks mean sentiment could shift quickly. For now, all eyes are on Ethereum’s next move and whether a breakout to $5,000 can reignite Bitmine’s rally.
