Institutional players are doubling down on Solana, with heavyweight firms moving to establish large-scale corporate reserves.
According to an August 26 report from The Information, Pantera Capital is preparing to raise up to $1.25 billion to convert a Nasdaq-listed company into a Solana-focused treasury vehicle. The plan reportedly involves an initial $500 million raise, followed by another $750 million, making it the largest SOL treasury initiative ever proposed. If completed, the Pantera-backed firm could quickly become the biggest corporate Solana holder to date.
This move reflects a broader trend. Just a day earlier, Galaxy Digital, Multicoin Capital, and Jump Crypto were revealed to be exploring their own Solana treasury project, with ambitions to raise around $1 billion in partnership with the Solana Foundation.
Several smaller companies are already active in this space. Nasdaq-listed Upexi currently leads the pack, holding roughly 2 million SOL worth about $380 million. Other notable players include DeFi Development Corp. (approx. 1.2 million SOL) and Canada-based Sol Strategies (370,400 SOL). Together, corporate reserves now account for nearly $700 million in Solana holdings. If Pantera and others succeed with their plans, that figure could rise sharply in the coming months.
Market Impact: SOL Slips Below $200
Despite the growing institutional momentum, Solana’s price has taken a hit in the short term. At the time of writing, SOL is trading near $188, down almost 8% in the past 24 hours. The drop pushed the token below the key $200 level, with intraday lows touching $185.
This decline snapped a week-long rally that had brought SOL close to $212, leaving weekly gains at around 4.5%. Market cap is down 7%, while trading volume has fallen by 10.3% to $10 billion. Open interest also slipped 16%, suggesting traders are approaching with caution.
On the charts, SOL is hovering around a key support zone at $185–$188. If the token can hold this level, analysts expect it to retest the $190–$195 range in the near term. A breakdown, however, could open the door to $170–$175.
The Relative Strength Index (RSI) currently sits at 51, indicating neutral momentum. Short-term EMAs remain above long-term averages, showing that despite recent selling pressure, the overall trend still leans bullish.
Outlook
Institutional demand has the potential to reshape Solana’s trajectory. With Pantera’s $1.25 billion plan and other billion-dollar treasury projects lining up, corporate accumulation could become a major catalyst for future price appreciation. While short-term volatility persists, the long-term picture suggests growing confidence in Solana as a reserve asset among institutional investors.
