Grayscale’s long-awaited spot Dogecoin ETF officially made its debut on NYSE Arca, but the first day of trading turned out to be much quieter than analysts expected. The fund generated around $1.4 million in opening-day volume, according to market data noticeably below the levels projected by several crypto market analysts.
A Bloomberg analyst had predicted a stronger start, but actual trading activity came in softer, signaling a more cautious response from investors.
A Slow Start for the Dogecoin ETF
Grayscale’s filings show the ETF launched with Dogecoin holdings and about 94,700 shares outstanding. The management fee is set at 0.35%, but Grayscale has temporarily waived the fee, bringing the expense ratio to 0% for the first three months or until the fund reaches a certain asset threshold.
Even with the fee waiver a strategy often used to attract early flows the Dogecoin ETF’s debut volume lagged behind other recent crypto ETF launches. Both the XRP and Solana spot ETFs saw stronger first-day interest and inflows.
What Analysts Are Watching Next
Market observers say the coming weeks will be important as investors evaluate the fund’s appeal. Key factors include:
- Whether the temporary zero-fee structure helps accelerate early inflows
- Dogecoin’s price action as new ETFs enter the market
- How investor demand shifts once Bitwise launches its competing DOGE ETF
- Creation and redemption activity, a core indicator of institutional demand
Despite the ETF’s subdued debut, industry analysts note that multiple new crypto ETFs have launched in recent months, which may be dividing investor attention and capital.
Interestingly, Dogecoin’s spot price barely reacted to the new ETF listing, reflecting the cautious tone around the debut.
With more crypto ETF products expected to roll out soon, analysts say competition may intensify and the Dogecoin ETF’s performance in its first few weeks will provide clearer insight into long-term demand.
