Zcash has had a brutal week. After eight straight days of losses, the privacy-focused cryptocurrency has slipped to a three-month low, leaving traders increasingly focused on whether the next major stop could be around $200.
At the time of writing, Zcash is trading near $243, down almost 40% in just one week, more than 50% over the past month, and roughly 65% below its November peak near $699. What’s worrying investors most is not just the speed of the decline, but the fact that ZEC is now threatening to break below a long-standing support trendline.
Why Zcash price fell so sharply
Several forces came together to push Zcash lower this week.
First, ZEC was swept up in the broader risk-off wave across crypto markets. As Bitcoin slid toward the psychologically important $70,000 level, more than $1.6 billion in leveraged positions were liquidated across the market. Privacy coins were hit particularly hard during this sell-off. Tokens such as Monero, Dash, and Horizen all posted double-digit weekly losses as enthusiasm around privacy-focused assets faded.
Second, confidence in Zcash has been fragile since early January, when a large portion of the Electric Coin Company’s core development team resigned. While the remaining contributors have said development will continue, the sudden leadership shake-up introduced uncertainty around Zcash’s long-term roadmap. In markets already on edge, that kind of uncertainty tends to weigh heavily on price.
Third, regulatory pressure on privacy coins continues to intensify globally. Proposed restrictions in countries like Russia, stricter AML oversight in India, and a recent decision by Dubai’s financial regulator to ban Zcash from licensed exchanges in the DIFC have all added to negative sentiment. Even when these measures are regional, they reinforce the perception that privacy coins face a tougher regulatory future than most other crypto assets.
What the charts are signaling now
From a technical standpoint, the situation has become more precarious.
On the daily chart, Zcash is hovering just above a descending trendline that has supported price action for several months. This level has historically attracted buyers, but repeated tests have weakened it. A decisive break below that trendline would signal that sellers are firmly in control and that bulls are running out of momentum.
ZEC has also slipped below its 200-day simple moving average, a widely watched indicator of long-term trend health. Momentum indicators are confirming the weakness as well, with the MACD rolling over and the MACD line dropping beneath the signal line—another sign that bearish pressure is building rather than easing.
Is $200 the next stop?
If the current support gives way, the $200 level stands out as the next major psychological zone where buyers might attempt to stabilize the price. That level has historically attracted attention during past drawdowns.
However, if Zcash fails to hold $200 convincingly, the market may begin searching for a deeper bottom, especially if broader crypto sentiment remains under pressure and regulatory headlines continue to stack up against privacy-focused assets.
For now, Zcash remains firmly in a defensive posture. Until price can reclaim lost support levels and broader risk appetite returns, rallies are likely to be treated with caution rather than confidence.
