Zcash has roared back into the spotlight after an explosive rally that saw the long-quiet privacy token more than triple in price within a single month. ZEC surged from $227.79 to a multi-year high of $736.51, surprising many in the market and raising questions about what or who is driving the run-up.
According to Ran Neuner, founder of Crypto Banter and a well-known figure in the crypto media space, the answer may lie with a coordinated effort from some of the industry’s most influential voices.
A coordinated push from top influencers
Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, along with BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes, have recently been vocal in their optimism toward Zcash. Their comments, paired with aligned messaging across social platforms, sparked speculation about whether a synchronized push was under way.
Neuner seems confident that this isn’t accidental.
“What’s happening with Zcash is clearly very coordinated,” he told crypto.news while attending the Crypto Content Creator Campus event in Lisbon.
“A group of influential people came together and decided they wanted to support a new mission — a mission around privacy.”
Neuner emphasized that Zcash has quietly remained one of the strongest and most sophisticated privacy protocols in crypto. With rising global surveillance and increasing regulatory oversight, he believes the spotlight on privacy is long overdue.
Not a pump-and-dump, but a purpose-driven narrative
Talk of a coordinated price push often scares investors, but Neuner rejects the idea that this is a short-term pump-and-dump scheme.
“I don’t believe that. The price action supports it nobody’s dumping. These people genuinely see Zcash as the next Bitcoin.”
Neuner compared today’s energy around Zcash to the early Bitcoin days in 2014 and 2015, when a concentrated group of builders and advocates aligned around a shared mission to push Bitcoin forward despite skepticism.
Will Zcash correct? Absolutely but long-term believers don’t mind
Neuner admits that, like any asset that skyrockets, Zcash could face a correction. But long-term value, in his view, depends on conviction:
“If you believe in private money and that it will remain legal then it’s still cheap.”
“If Zcash works as a protocol, then $600 or $700 is nothing.”
Why privacy is having a moment
The surge in Zcash interest comes as global financial oversight tightens. Neuner notes that both the U.S. and EU have become more aggressive about monitoring large transactions, and rising political pressure is pushing wealthy individuals toward privacy-preserving assets.
He agrees with comments from Nas Daily’s Nuseir Yassin, who suggested that political crackdowns such as Zohran Mamdani’s election win in New York could push high-net-worth individuals toward privacy tools like Zcash.
Zcash vs Monero: The compliance debate
Critically, Neuner highlights a distinction between Zcash and Monero, the other major privacy coin.
- Zcash uses zero-knowledge proofs, allowing users to reveal transaction details if required.
- Monero fully obscures the transaction graph, making verification nearly impossible.
That difference, he says, may determine how governments treat privacy tokens in the future.
“Zcash offers compliant privacy. If you need to prove the source of funds, you can. That makes it fundamentally different.”
Could Zcash challenge Bitcoin?
Not directly, according to Neuner but he sees a future where the two coexist and complement each other:
- Bitcoin serves as transparent proof of reserves.
- Zcash becomes the standard for private, sovereign transactions.
Institutions could hold BTC for audits, transact using ZEC when privacy matters, then settle back into Bitcoin.
The path ahead: regulation and responsibility
With influencers increasingly steering market narratives, Neuner says crypto desperately needs clearer rules.
He argues for disclosure laws requiring influencers to reveal incentives and making it clear when they plan to sell tokens they discuss.
“Crypto is the Wild West right now. We need laws then responsibility shifts to users.”
As Zcash enters a new era of attention, the debate over privacy, legality, and influence continues to intensify and this rally may be only the beginning of a much larger conversation.
