Crypto payments are moving deeper into everyday business operations. MoonPay and Deel have announced a new partnership that will allow tens of thousands of companies across the United Kingdom and European Union to pay employees in stablecoins.
The initiative could bring crypto payroll into the mainstream, starting with roughly 40,000 firms already using Deel’s global payroll system.
How the Stablecoin Payroll System Will Work
The service will be powered by Iron, MoonPay’s fiat infrastructure division. Through the integration with Deel’s payroll platform, businesses will be able to send wages directly to employees’ digital wallets in stablecoins instead of traditional bank transfers.
For companies operating across borders, this model could reduce delays, simplify currency conversions, and offer workers more flexibility in how they receive compensation.
The rollout is expected to begin in the UK and EU, with plans to expand to the United States later.
Why This Matters for Cross-Border Payroll
Deel specializes in managing global payroll, compliance, and contractor payments across multiple jurisdictions. In 2025 alone, the platform reportedly processed around $22 billion in payroll volume.
By layering stablecoin payouts onto that infrastructure, MoonPay and Deel are effectively testing crypto-based salary distribution at scale. This move is especially relevant for remote-first businesses, international teams, and companies paying workers in different currencies.
Deel has previously supported crypto compensation options. As early as 2021, it allowed workers to receive wages in USDC and on networks such as Solana. The new partnership expands that idea into a broader, more structured payroll framework.
MoonPay’s Expanding Infrastructure Strategy
The announcement also reflects MoonPay’s shift beyond consumer crypto services and into deeper financial infrastructure. In late 2024, wallet provider Exodus Movement partnered with MoonPay and M0 to launch a U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin.
By entering payroll infrastructure, MoonPay is positioning itself closer to enterprise finance rather than only retail crypto access.
A Broader Push Toward Business Integration
Stablecoins have often been discussed as tools for trading or remittances. This partnership signals a more practical use case: paying salaries.
If successful, the pilot could demonstrate that stablecoins are not just speculative assets but functional tools for real-world business operations. With thousands of companies already on Deel’s system, the test offers a meaningful environment to evaluate reliability, compliance, and user adoption.
As crypto firms continue to explore practical applications, payroll may become one of the most visible examples of digital assets moving from theory to everyday use.
