How the XRP card works
Unlike a normal crypto card that sells your digital assets when you make a purchase, the RedotPay RLUSD Card functions as a collateral-backed loan.

- Users deposit XRP as collateral.
- RedotPay offers a credit line worth up to 50% of the XRP’s value.
- The borrowed funds are issued in RLUSD, Ripple’s U.S. dollar-pegged stablecoin.
- Transactions are settled on the XRP Ledger (XRPL) before being processed through Visa’s global payment network.
For example, if someone deposits $1,000 worth of XRP, they can borrow up to $500 in RLUSD while continuing to own their XRP.
Once the loan is repaid, the collateral is released.
Why some XRP holders may like it
The biggest advantage is that users don’t have to sell their XRP to access cash.
That offers several potential benefits:

A major step for RLUSD
The launch is also significant for Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin.
Until now, much of RLUSD’s activity has been concentrated in institutional trading, cross-border payments, and exchange settlements.
The RedotPay card introduces RLUSD into everyday consumer payments.
Every transaction is settled on the XRP Ledger before reaching Visa’s payment network, potentially increasing real-world activity on XRPL and giving Ripple’s stablecoin broader adoption.
For Ripple, this represents one of the first large-scale consumer payment products built around RLUSD.

The risks users shouldn’t ignore
While the product offers convenience, it also introduces leverage.
Because users are borrowing against XRP, a significant decline in the token’s price could trigger additional collateral requirements or even liquidation.
One of the biggest unanswered questions is exactly when that would happen.
RedotPay has not publicly disclosed several important details, including:
- Interest rates on borrowed funds.
- Margin call thresholds.
- Liquidation procedures.
- Whether pledged XRP may be reused or rehypothecated.

Why volatility matters
