Aave is expanding its real-world asset strategy with a new Base-based equities market that would allow users to borrow USDC against tokenized shares issued by Coinbase.
The proposed Equities Hub includes seven tokenized U.S. technology stocks linked to Apple, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Tesla.
Under the plan, eligible users would be able to deposit these tokenized stocks as collateral and borrow USDC without selling their equity exposure.
The development marks another step in the growing connection between decentralized finance and tokenized traditional assets.
Aave V4 Brings Tokenized Stocks Into DeFi Lending
Aave’s proposed Base deployment is designed around a simple structure: tokenized stocks act as collateral, while USDC serves as the only asset users can borrow.
The seven supported stock tokens are tied to:
- Apple
- Amazon
- Alphabet
- Meta
- Microsoft
- Nvidia
- Tesla
Users would not be able to borrow the stock tokens themselves or use one tokenized stock to borrow another.
Instead, the market is built specifically around borrowing USDC against equity-backed collateral.
Aave’s governance materials currently describe the market as a proposal, meaning governance approval is still required before full deployment.
Aave Sets $21 Million USDC Borrowing Cap
Aave has proposed limits designed to control the size and risk of the new market.
The main lending market would have a USDC supply cap of $32 million and a borrowing cap of $21 million.
LlamaRisk, Aave’s risk service provider, also proposed a combined initial collateral cap of roughly $29 million across the seven tokenized stocks.
These limits represent the maximum size of positions allowed in the system and should not be confused with actual deposits or borrowing activity.
Each stock token will also have its own collateral factor, which determines how much USDC users can borrow against it.
The proposed borrowing factors include:
- Microsoft: 79%
- Apple: 78%
- Alphabet: 76%
- Amazon: 73%
- Nvidia: 70%
- Meta: 65%
- Tesla: 65%
This means the borrowing power of a user’s position will depend on which stock tokens are deposited as collateral.
Aave Equities Hub Will Keep Risks Separate
The tokenized stock market will operate through a dedicated Aave V4 Equities Hub.
That structure will allow all seven stock tokens to share a USDC liquidity pool while keeping their risks separate from Aave’s other Base markets.
Users supplying USDC into the hub would provide liquidity to borrowers using tokenized stocks as collateral.
Aave is also planning a separate supply-only route that can be used by USDC vaults and other liquidity aggregators.
The structure is designed to give Aave greater control over risk while allowing tokenized equities to become more useful inside DeFi.
Aave Labs founder and CEO Stani Kulechov described the development as a shift from simply holding or trading tokenized stocks to being able to borrow against them.
Chainlink Will Provide Stock Price Data
Aave plans to use Chainlink price feeds to determine the value of the tokenized stock collateral.
However, tokenized stocks introduce a unique challenge because blockchain lending markets operate 24 hours a day while the underlying U.S. stocks do not.
According to LlamaRisk, the initial Chainlink feeds publish pricing data from Sunday evening through Friday evening Eastern time.
During weekends and market holidays, the feeds may continue showing the last available price.
This creates additional risk because important news can be released while U.S. stock markets are closed.
When trading resumes, a stock could experience a sudden price move, potentially affecting borrowers whose positions are close to liquidation.
Because of this, Aave’s proposed collateral factors and liquidation settings have been designed with overnight and weekend price gaps in mind.
Chainlink is expected to introduce continuous pricing feeds for these assets in the future.
Once those feeds become available, Aave’s risk parameters could be reviewed again.
Coinbase Tokenized Stocks Continue Expanding on Base
Coinbase began introducing tokenized stock products on Base before Aave announced its lending plans.
Its early lineup included tokens connected to Apple, Alphabet, Meta, and Nvidia.
Additional launches later expanded the number of tokenized stock products available on the network.
The seven assets selected for Aave’s Equities Hub are all linked to major publicly traded U.S. technology companies.
Coinbase describes the products as beneficial interests backed by underlying shares rather than synthetic assets that only follow the market price of a stock.
That backing structure gives the tokens a connection to real shares held through financial infrastructure outside the blockchain.
U.S. Investors Cannot Currently Access the Tokens
Despite being linked to major American companies, Coinbase’s tokenized stocks are not currently available to U.S. users.
The products are issued through a Coinbase entity based in Abu Dhabi, while Alpaca Securities acts as broker and custodian for the underlying shares.
The tokens are offered only to eligible users outside the United States and are not registered under the U.S. Securities Act.
That restriction also applies to the proposed Aave borrowing market.
Eligible non-U.S. users could potentially deposit the stock tokens and borrow USDC, while USDC suppliers could earn interest from the lending activity.
Aave’s Equities Hub does not change Coinbase’s geographic restrictions.
U.S. Tokenized Stock Regulation Is Still Developing
The U.S. regulatory environment surrounding tokenized stocks is also evolving.
The Securities and Exchange Commission has introduced a conditional framework that could allow certain tokenized U.S. equities to trade on qualifying permissioned platforms.
However, Coinbase’s current offshore tokenized stock products would need to meet applicable U.S. requirements before they could be offered to American investors.
The Aave proposal focuses only on Coinbase’s existing tokens on Base and does not provide authorization for U.S. distribution.
Aave Expands Tokenized Asset Strategy
The Base Equities Hub is not Aave’s only effort involving tokenized real-world assets.
Aave has also outlined a separate credit market on Avalanche where institutions could potentially borrow stablecoins against tokenized assets.
That proposal involves Tether’s USA₮ and is aimed more heavily at institutional lending.
The Base market takes a different approach by focusing on seven Coinbase tokenized stocks with USDC as the borrowing asset.
Together, the projects show how Aave is positioning V4 as infrastructure for a wider range of tokenized financial assets.
AAVE Price Trades Near $147
AAVE was trading around $147 following the announcement, after reaching approximately $150 during the session.
The token remained above its Supertrend indicator, which was positioned near $117.
The Aroon indicator also showed stronger upward momentum, with Aroon Up significantly above Aroon Down.
On the daily chart, the next important resistance level is around $155.43.
A sustained move above that area could place AAVE above the current upper resistance zone.
On the downside, support levels are marked near $134.56 and $118.18.
The Supertrend indicator is also positioned close to the lower support area.
Could the Equities Hub Affect AAVE Price?
The launch of a tokenized equities lending market could strengthen Aave’s position in the growing real-world asset sector.
If demand for tokenized stock borrowing increases, the Equities Hub could attract additional liquidity and lending activity to Aave V4.
However, the market is still subject to governance approval, and its initial borrowing and collateral caps will limit early activity.
AAVE’s price will also continue to be influenced by wider crypto market conditions, overall DeFi activity, investor sentiment, and the adoption of Aave V4.
For now, traders are watching the $155 resistance area while the token remains above key support levels.
The bigger long-term question is whether tokenized equities can become a meaningful source of lending demand across decentralized finance.
If adoption grows, Aave’s Equities Hub could become an important test of how traditional assets and DeFi lending can operate together.
