JPMorgan is taking another major step into the crypto market, this time with a new Bitcoin-backed investment product designed specifically for institutional clients. According to newly released regulatory filings, the bank is preparing to issue structured notes tied to BlackRock’s spot Bitcoin ETF, IBIT.
These notes give investors indirect exposure to Bitcoin without owning any BTC themselves. Instead, the product tracks the performance of BlackRock’s IBIT ETF, offering institutional clients a more traditional, regulated way to benefit from Bitcoin’s price movement.
A Leveraged, Protected Way to Play Bitcoin
What makes JPMorgan’s product stand out is its structure. If held until 2028, the notes can offer up to 1.5x leveraged returns, depending on how Bitcoin performs. On top of that, investors may earn up to 16% returns if IBIT reaches certain price targets by December 2026.
The notes also include a conditional protection feature. Investors will receive their principal back in 2028 as long as Bitcoin doesn’t fall more than 30%. However, if Bitcoin drops beyond that threshold, losses become possible though still limited compared to direct BTC exposure.
Scaramucci: “People don’t yet understand how big this is”
SkyBridge Capital founder Anthony Scaramucci called JPMorgan’s move a major milestone for the crypto market, noting that the bank’s decision strengthens Bitcoin’s credibility within mainstream finance.
He emphasized that while retail investors may not immediately grasp its significance, the filing shows how deeply Bitcoin is being integrated into traditional financial products.
Part of JPMorgan’s Larger Crypto Roadmap
This filing is just one piece of JPMorgan’s longer-term crypto strategy. The bank has already allowed certain clients to use Bitcoin as collateral and has steadily expanded its digital-asset offerings for large investors.
Analysts say these new structured notes reflect the growing institutional appetite for Bitcoin, especially after the approval of spot BTC ETFs in the U.S. earlier this year.
Still, financial experts warn that these products carry risk. Even with downside buffers, Bitcoin’s volatility remains a key factor, and institutions entering the market should be prepared for price swings.
JPMorgan’s filing signals yet another chapter in the rapid migration of Bitcoin into mainstream finance with Wall Street’s largest banks now actively competing to serve the next wave of institutional demand.
