Avalanche is doubling down on a long-term vision centered around purpose-built blockchains, choosing to focus on real-world use cases rather than chasing short-lived crypto trends, according to Ava Labs’ chief business officer John Nahas.
Speaking in a recent interview, Nahas explained that Avalanche’s growth strategy is rooted in building dedicated blockchain environments tailored to specific needs across finance, enterprise, and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence. Instead of reacting to fast-moving narratives on social media, Avalanche is prioritizing infrastructure that can support long-term adoption.
Nahas argued that many crypto projects fall into a cycle of responding to short-term hype, which often leads to fragmented development and rushed products. In contrast, Avalanche’s approach emphasizes patience and intentional design. According to him, meaningful innovation takes time, especially when serving institutions with complex operational requirements.
Avalanche’s thesis is that the next phase of blockchain adoption will not be driven by a single dominant network, but by many sovereign layer-1 blockchains built for specific purposes. These chains can be private, public, or hybrid, while still remaining interoperable within the Avalanche ecosystem.
“Banks want their own environment. Asset managers want their own environment. Enterprises want their own environment,” Nahas said, highlighting why one-size-fits-all blockchains often fail to meet institutional demands.
This strategy is already playing out in practice. Toyota is reportedly developing four separate Avalanche-based blockchains, each designed for a different internal workflow. Global organizations such as FIFA and Japan’s Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation are also building independent blockchain environments using Avalanche technology.
Avalanche currently supports nearly 80 live layer-1 blockchains, with more than 100 additional networks in testing. Nahas estimates that by next year, around 200 institutional and enterprise-focused chains could be operating on Avalanche across sectors such as finance, identity, government services, and AI.
Rather than offering a generic platform in search of users, Avalanche aims to provide targeted solutions that align with how real-world organizations operate. By focusing on purpose-built infrastructure, the network hopes to position itself as a foundational layer for the next generation of enterprise blockchain adoption.
As crypto markets continue to cycle through hype-driven narratives, Avalanche’s strategy reflects a broader shift toward sustainable growth built on utility, customization, and long-term partnerships.
