Ripple is making another big move and this time, it’s betting on stablecoins to fuel its next phase of growth.
On August 7, Ripple announced plans to acquire Toronto-based fintech firm Rail in a deal worth $200 million. The acquisition is expected to close in Q4 2025 and marks a major step forward in Ripple’s mission to dominate the global stablecoin payments space.
Rail isn’t just any payments company. It has quietly built a powerful infrastructure that includes virtual accounts, banking partner integrations, and automated back-office systems. These tools will give Ripple a major edge as it expands its B2B stablecoin solutions especially in a market projected to hit $36 billion globally this year.
“Ripple has one of the most widely used digital asset payment networks in the world,” said Ripple President Monica Long. “This acquisition shows our commitment to helping customers move money instantly, wherever and whenever they need.”
By absorbing Rail’s tech, Ripple plans to supercharge pay-ins and pay-outs across key financial corridors. The best part? Clients won’t even need to hold crypto on their balance sheets. The integration will also support internal treasury flows, third-party payments, and multiple digital assets—including Ripple’s own XRP and its growing stablecoin, RLUSD.
Rail CEO Bhanu Kohli highlighted the shared vision between the two companies. “Over the past four years, Rail built the fastest way to settle international business payments using stablecoins,” he said. “In 2025 alone, we expect to process over 10% of the global B2B stablecoin market. Ripple shares our vision, and we’re excited to scale this innovation together.”
This isn’t Ripple’s first major acquisition. Earlier this year, the company announced a $1.25 billion deal for multi-asset prime broker Hidden Road. Altogether, Ripple has invested over $3 billion into acquisitions and strategic expansion.
The Rail deal also comes at a critical time in the U.S., with the newly passed GENIUS Act introducing sweeping regulations for stablecoin issuers. Ripple, which is actively pursuing a national banking license, seems ready to adapt and lead.
Its RLUSD stablecoin already boasts a $612 million market cap, and with Rail now in the fold, Ripple’s ambitions in the stablecoin space are becoming impossible to ignore.
