Meta is moving deeper into blockchain-based payments by allowing select creators to receive payouts in USDC through crypto wallets on Solana and Polygon.
According to Meta’s support documentation, eligible creators can now choose to receive their earnings in USDC instead of using only traditional payment methods. The payouts will be processed through Stripe, which is also expected to provide crypto-related tax reporting support for these transactions.
Meta Expands Creator Payout Options
The new payment option gives selected creators a way to receive money directly into a supported crypto wallet. Meta has listed wallets such as MetaMask, Phantom, and Binance as supported options.
However, Meta has clearly warned users to only enter wallet addresses that support USDC on Solana or Polygon. If funds are sent to the wrong network or an unsupported wallet address, the transfer cannot be reversed or recovered.
This means creators will need to be careful when adding their wallet details. They will also be responsible for keeping their wallet secure and maintaining transaction records for tax purposes.
Stripe Will Handle the Payment Processing
Meta is using Stripe as the payment processor for this rollout. Stripe will manage the crypto payout flow and may also provide creators with tax-related documents linked to their USDC transactions.
This gives Meta a way to offer blockchain-based payments without building the entire crypto payment system itself. It also allows the company to rely on an established payments provider as it tests stablecoin payouts in limited markets.
Rollout Starts With Select Creators
Polygon said the service is currently available to select creators in Colombia and the Philippines. The rollout is limited for now, but there are plans to expand stablecoin payouts to more regions in the future.
The move shows that Meta is once again exploring digital asset payments after its earlier Libra project, later renamed Diem, was shut down due to regulatory pressure.
Why USDC Payments Matter
USDC is one of the most widely used stablecoins in the crypto market. It is designed to maintain a 1:1 value with the U.S. dollar, making it useful for payments, transfers, and settlements.
By using USDC, Meta can offer creators a faster and more flexible payout option, especially in regions where traditional banking access or cross-border payments may be slower or more expensive.
Solana and Polygon are also known for low-cost blockchain transactions, which makes them practical networks for creator payouts.
Stablecoin Adoption Continues to Grow
Meta’s move comes at a time when stablecoin usage is growing across the crypto and payments industry. USDC infrastructure has expanded across multiple blockchain networks, supported by tools that help move USDC between chains more efficiently.
Circle’s cross-chain technology allows USDC to move across supported networks using a burn-and-mint model instead of relying on wrapped tokens. This helps improve liquidity and creates a smoother user experience across different blockchains.
A Careful Return to Crypto Payments
Meta’s latest move does not appear to be a full return to its earlier crypto ambitions. Instead, the company is taking a more practical approach by using third-party partners like Stripe and existing stablecoin networks.
For creators, the new option could provide more control over how they receive and manage their earnings. For Meta, it gives the company a way to test blockchain payments without taking on the full regulatory and technical burden of launching its own digital currency.
If the rollout expands successfully, USDC payouts could become a useful payment option for creators in more countries.
