Robinhood’s much-anticipated partnership with Arbitrum has failed to ignite investor enthusiasm instead, it appears to have triggered a sharp sell-off in ARB’s price, wiping out earlier gains and sparking fresh concerns about the token’s outlook.
According to data from crypto.news, Arbitrum’s ARB token has tumbled more than 13% in the past 24 hours, currently trading at around $0.32. Its market capitalization now sits at approximately $1.61 billion.
The downturn followed Robinhood’s official announcement during an event in Cannes, confirming its collaboration with Arbitrum. The two plan to build Robinhood Chain, a blockchain network that aims to allow EU-based users to trade U.S. equities on-chain an ambitious move blending traditional finance with blockchain technology.
While the partnership initially stirred excitement, much of the buzz had already been priced in after Robinhood teased the announcement back on June 29. At the time, they hinted that one of their top executives and A.J. Warner, Chief Strategy Officer of Offchain Labs (the developers behind Arbitrum), would appear together on a panel at the Cannes event.
In the wake of that teaser, ARB surged as much as 46% in just eight hours, reaching $0.38. However, the price has since dropped nearly 16%, following a classic “sell-the-news” pattern where traders cash out once anticipated positive developments are officially revealed.
Adding fuel to the downturn, blockchain analytics firm Nansen reported that notable crypto influencers and public figures dumped significant ARB holdings. Their collective balances in ARB have plummeted by 95.8% in a single day, leaving them with a mere 784 tokens. Such high-profile selling often sends bearish signals to retail traders, amplifying downward pressure in the market.
Nansen’s data also shows ARB exchange balances have risen 17% over the past week. This trend suggests investors continue moving tokens onto trading platforms, likely preparing for further selling.
Technical Signals Flash Red for ARB
The technical outlook for ARB isn’t looking any brighter. On the 4-hour chart against USDT, Arbitrum is flashing several bearish signals pointing toward further price declines.
A worrying sign is that the 50-day Simple Moving Average (SMA) is close to crossing below the 200-day SMA, forming a “death cross.” Traders often view this pattern as a strong indicator of prolonged price weakness.
Momentum indicators further underscore the bearish sentiment. The MACD line has slipped beneath its signal line a typical sell signal indicating fading bullish momentum. Meanwhile, the Chaikin Money Flow (CMF) index has dropped sharply from 0.45 to just 0.08, revealing a significant decrease in buying pressure and a shift toward potential capital outflows.
Given this combination of technical and fundamental factors, analysts suggest ARB may continue its slide toward the immediate support level of $0.31. A drop below that could open the door to further losses, with the next key psychological and structural support seen at $0.28.
For now, investors and traders will be closely watching whether Robinhood’s blockchain ambitions can eventually translate into real utility for Arbitrum or if the hype has already run its course.
