Joseph Lubin, Ethereum co-founder and founder of Consensys, has predicted that Wall Street is on the verge of embracing decentralized finance (DeFi) and digital assets in a major way. In a recent post, Lubin highlighted the increasing institutional appetite for Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) as a signal that the traditional financial system is preparing to pivot toward DeFi.
Institutional Demand Signals a Financial Shift
Lubin pointed to the growing trend of corporations accumulating BTC and ETH for their treasuries as a leading indicator of Wall Street’s interest. “They care about financial instruments that consistently climb in value. Right now, crypto is on their watchlist,” he noted.
He added that as companies like MicroStrategy (MSTR) and Swan Bitcoin (SBET) set the precedent with aggressive Bitcoin strategies, Wall Street will be motivated to understand the ecosystem including Ethereum’s role in powering DeFi protocols.
“They will have to deeply understand the details of Bitcoin and Ethereum and the strategies of MSTR and SBET,” said Lubin. “They will have to go deep on DeFi on Ethereum.”
Builders Must Inspire Wall Street
Lubin emphasized that it is now up to developers and builders in the crypto space to keep pushing innovation. Their work, he said, is critical to getting Wall Street “excited” about DeFi, especially as barriers to entry continue to fall.
With DeFi infrastructure maturing and regulatory clarity improving, Lubin believes the path is clear for mainstream adoption. “The best and brightest builders are now entering the ecosystem to build on our tech,” he said, pointing to reduced political interference under the current U.S. administration.
Regulatory Landscape Has Shifted
Lubin also credited a shift in U.S. regulatory sentiment for accelerating institutional involvement. He stated that since President Trump took office, regulators like the SEC have become less aggressive, allowing builders to develop without the fear of being debanked or targeted by politically motivated enforcement actions a stark contrast to the approach under former Chair Gary Gensler.
\$3.85 Billion Wall Street Inflows Into ETH
Wall Street’s growing confidence is already being reflected in capital flows. According to data from SoSoValue, Ethereum-based ETFs have generated \$3.85 billion in cumulative inflows as of June 13, signaling robust institutional interest in ETH. Analysts say this could be the beginning of a broader rally, as Ethereum price action shows bullish technical formations.
With regulatory conditions easing and institutional interest climbing, Joseph Lubin’s prediction of a Wall Street-crypto convergence is no longer speculative it’s becoming reality. As financial titans begin exploring DeFi and allocating capital to Ethereum and Bitcoin, the next phase of mainstream crypto adoption may be driven not by retail hype, but by institutional conviction.
