Trump Media’s social media platform, Truth Social, is dropping hints about a major crypto move: launching its own utility token. The new token would be linked directly to users’ social media accounts and used to earn rewards for activity on the platform.
In a recent post shared on Truth Social’s official account, the company revealed plans to introduce a utility token “in the near future.” According to the update, Trump Media is currently beta-testing a new subscription plan called the Patriot Package under its streaming service, Truth+.
How the Patriot Package Works
The Patriot Package is designed as a premium offering. It includes access to 12 “premium, non-woke news channels” plus a variety of video-on-demand content. But it’s not just about streaming. The subscription also offers perks for users on Truth Social itself, such as red-check verified profiles, boosted comments, and an exclusive Truth+ account.
Crucially, users who subscribe to the Patriot Package will be able to earn “gems” based on how active they are on the platform. Those gems, the company says, will eventually be tied to the new utility token, creating a bridge between social media engagement and cryptocurrency rewards.
“Based on their level of engagement with the platforms, Patriot Package subscribers will accumulate gems on their Truth Social accounts. These will eventually be tied to a utility token on both Truth Social and Truth+,” the platform explained in its post.
Right now, Truth Social is offering users a free trial of the Patriot Package via a beta test link. They’re also inviting feedback on designs for the “gems” that will serve as the initial form of rewards connected to the upcoming token.
A Broader Crypto Vision for Trump Media
Trump Media’s interest in crypto isn’t entirely new. Back in April, the company hinted at these plans in a letter to shareholders. In that letter, Devin Nunes, CEO and Chairman of Trump Media, shared that the company was exploring the launch of both a utility token and a digital wallet for its streaming service, Truth+.
The idea is that the token could eventually be used to pay for Truth+ subscriptions. But the vision doesn’t stop there the utility token could also extend into other Trump Media products and services, potentially including financial technology and financial services through the company’s Truth.Fi division.
Meanwhile, Trump Media has been making other headlines in crypto circles. Most recently, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) accepted Trump Media’s application to list and trade shares of its dual-crypto ETF tied to both Bitcoin and Ethereum. The SEC is still reviewing the S-1 filing, about a month after it was first submitted.
While details about the utility token remain under wraps including when exactly it will launch or how it will work the move signals that Trump Media is serious about weaving crypto into its broader ecosystem. As Truth Social keeps evolving, users and investors alike will be watching to see how these ambitious plans unfold.
