Donald Trump Jr. has made a splash in the crypto world with a fresh investment in Thumzup Media Corp., a social media company that’s embracing Bitcoin as part of its financial strategy.
As reported by Bloomberg, Trump Jr. bought 350,000 shares in the Los Angeles-based firm a stake valued at over $4 million when disclosed. The purchase wasn’t a personal business move, though; it came on the advice of his investment adviser, and Trump Jr. doesn’t hold any operational role at Thumzup.
His investment was revealed not long after Thumzup wrapped up a $6 million private placement of convertible preferred stock. That deal was organized by Dominari Securities, where both Donald Jr. and his brother Eric Trump serve as advisers to Dominari’s parent company.
Thumzup’s Business and Bitcoin Bet
Thumzup operates a platform that pays users to promote products on social media platforms like Instagram. But while the business concept sounds promising, the financials so far paint a stark picture. In the first quarter of 2025, Thumzup reported a net loss of $2.2 million on just $151 in revenue.
Despite the meager income, the company has drawn attention for its aggressive Bitcoin strategy.
Thumzup first dipped its toes into Bitcoin back in November 2024, when its board approved plans to buy up to $1 million in BTC. That move came amid surging institutional interest in Bitcoin and huge inflows into spot Bitcoin ETFs.
By January 2025, Thumzup doubled down, boosting its Bitcoin holdings to 19.106 BTC worth around $2 million at the time and authorizing the company to allocate up to 90% of its surplus cash into Bitcoin. Thumzup has even paid some participants in its Associate Salesperson Program with Bitcoin, underscoring its commitment to crypto adoption.
Plans for Bigger Moves
Thumzup isn’t stopping there. The company recently amended its universal shelf registration with the SEC, aiming to raise as much as $500 million over the next three years. Although that filing isn’t effective yet, Thumzup has already said that some of the funds raised would go toward expanding its Bitcoin treasury.
Crypto Runs in the Trump Family
This move by Donald Trump Jr. is just the latest in the Trump family’s increasing involvement in the crypto space.
Eric Trump recently joined the advisory board of Metaplanet, a Japanese firm that holds Bitcoin on its balance sheet. Meanwhile, Trump Media & Technology Group the parent company of Truth Social has raised $2.3 billion and indicated plans to allocate part of those funds into Bitcoin.
Additionally, Donald Trump and his sons have launched World Liberty Financial, a crypto venture that has issued a stablecoin, secured over $100 million in funding from a UAE-based fund, and reportedly generated tens of millions of dollars in revenue.
It’s clear that for the Trump family, crypto isn’t just a passing trend it’s becoming a significant piece of their investment and business strategy.
