The crypto world was rocked on Wednesday, June 19, when Bedrock (BR), a token listed under Binance’s prestigious Alpha program, saw its price slashed in half practically overnight. The dramatic drop came after a sudden liquidity exodus that’s left traders questioning just how secure these supposedly vetted projects really are.
According to on-chain data shared by analyst @ai_9684xtpa, a total of 26 addresses yanked nearly $47.6 million worth of BR token liquidity in an incredibly short span just 100 seconds. Among these were three addresses each holding over $1 million worth of BR, while 13 others held more than $500,000 each.
Screenshots of posts from @ai_9684xtpa quickly made the rounds on social media, fueling speculation about whether these big players were acting together in a coordinated sell-off.
Price Collapse and Speculation
The effect was immediate and devastating. BR’s price crashed over 50%, and as of the latest data, it’s still down around 44% in the past 24 hours. Many in the crypto community are now wondering whether these large sellers were simply whales cashing out or possibly insiders from the Bedrock team engaging in what looks suspiciously like a rug pull. For now, there’s no independent confirmation that team members were involved, but the possibility has traders on edge.
Questions Mount Over Binance Alpha
The fiasco has sparked renewed criticism of Binance Alpha, the exchange’s high-profile program designed to showcase new tokens and drive usage of the Binance Wallet. While Binance Alpha has been a smash hit in terms of trading volume and user engagement, some traders have complained that Alpha users enjoy disproportionate rewards and early access.
The BR token crash has only amplified those complaints. Critics argue that Binance Alpha might be turning into a breeding ground for pump-and-dump schemes, where whales artificially inflate token prices and then dump their holdings for profit leaving everyday traders holding the bag.
Such schemes, often dubbed rug pulls, are unfortunately not rare in the crypto space. They involve sudden, large-scale sell-offs that leave token prices in free fall, wiping out millions in market value almost instantly.
As the dust settles around BR’s crash, traders and investors will be watching closely to see whether Binance tightens its vetting process or if more Alpha-listed tokens might follow a similar path.
