The digital asset industry could be on the brink of explosive growth, potentially surging by as much as $15 trillion to $20 trillion in value, according to Bo Hines, Executive Director of the President’s Council of Advisers on Digital Assets.
In a recent interview, Hines spoke passionately about the transformative impact he believes the White House’s stablecoin bill, known as the GENIUS Act, will have on the crypto market once it becomes law.
“The capital injection that goes into digital assets ecosystems or stables is enormous,” Hines said. “I think that you’re looking into an industry going to $15 to $20 trillion dollars.”
Right now, the overall crypto market is experiencing a downturn. Data from CoinGecko shows the global crypto market cap has slipped by 4.3%, currently hovering around $3.4 trillion. If Hines’ prediction holds true, the U.S. stablecoin legislation could propel the market to more than five times its current size.
America Aiming for Global Leadership in Digital Assets
Hines emphasized that ongoing regulatory efforts in Washington, including the stablecoin bill awaiting a vote in the House of Representatives, could firmly position the U.S. as a global leader in digital asset innovation.
He explained that the legislation would not only solidify the dominance of U.S. dollar-pegged stablecoins but also pave the way for new blockchain innovations heavily reliant on these digital dollars.
“Tokenized public securities, 24/7 markets if you want to access U.S. capital markets, you’re going to have to use a dollar-backed stable,” Hines said.
He added, “This is what positions the United States to be the global leader. And in reality, we should be pushing this change.”
GENIUS Act Nears the Finish Line
The Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins Act, or GENIUS Act, recently passed the U.S. Senate with significant bipartisan support, clearing the chamber in a 68–30 vote. The bill now moves to the House of Representatives and is expected to advance by the end of July.
As lawmakers move closer to giving the GENIUS Act the final green light, the stakes are high. For the crypto industry, the legislation could unlock new avenues of growth, investment, and global competitiveness all while potentially redefining how the world interacts with the U.S. dollar in the digital era.
