U.S. President Donald Trump is set to deliver remarks at the Digital Asset Summit (DAS) in New York on March 20, 2025, marking the first time a sitting U.S. president has spoken at a cryptocurrency industry conference. His speech, scheduled for 10:40 a.m. ET at North Javits, comes as the White House signals increasing interest in Bitcoin accumulation.
White House’s Growing Interest in Bitcoin
The Biden administration’s stance on Bitcoin appears to be shifting, with recent moves indicating a strategic focus on digital assets. According to Bo Hines, executive director of the White House’s Presidents Council of Advisers on Digital Assets, the administration is considering Bitcoin as a national asset.
“It’s high time that our president started accumulating assets for the American people, which is what President Trump is doing rather than taking it away. I’ve been asked all the time, it’s like how much do you want, right? I mean, as much as we can get,” Hines stated.
U.S. Strategic Bitcoin Reserve Initiative
A few weeks ago, Trump signed an executive order establishing a U.S. Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, signaling a historic policy shift. The reserve, which will be funded through Bitcoin seized via federal asset forfeiture, ensures that taxpayers will not bear any costs.
Lawmakers, including Senator Cynthia Lummis and Congressman Nick Begich, have introduced proposals for the U.S. to acquire up to 1 million BTC over the next five years. The initiative aims to secure Bitcoin as a long-term national asset.
“Digital Fort Knox” Approach
White House AI and Crypto Czar David Sacks revealed that the U.S. government already holds approximately 200,000 BTC, though a full audit has never been conducted. Under the new executive order, a comprehensive accounting of federal digital asset holdings will be required. The order also prohibits the sale of Bitcoin in the reserve, positioning it as a “digital Fort Knox.”
Key Speakers at DAS 2025
Alongside Trump, other major figures in the crypto space will speak at the Digital Asset Summit, including:
- Michael Saylor (MicroStrategy), discussing Bitcoin adoption and institutional strategies.
- James Seyffart (Bloomberg ETF analyst), analyzing spot Bitcoin ETFs and their impact on the market.
A New Era for U.S. Bitcoin Policy?
Trump’s participation in DAS 2025 and the establishment of a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve highlight a major policy shift in the U.S. government’s approach to cryptocurrency. With institutional adoption accelerating and legislative support growing, the White House’s moves could have long-term implications for Bitcoin’s role in the global economy.
