Crypto markets are holding their breath as traders wait for today’s Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) decision — and more importantly, what Jerome Powell says next.
While the headline interest-rate decision is widely expected to be a pause, market participants are far more focused on Powell’s tone around inflation, labor markets, and the future path of rates. That uncertainty has left Bitcoin, Ethereum, and XRP coiling tightly at key technical levels.
Bitcoin and Ethereum pause before the Fed verdict
Bitcoin continues to consolidate just below the psychological $90,000 mark, hovering near $89,000 as bulls and bears wait for confirmation. A convincing move above $90k could open the door to a fresh upside leg, while a breakdown below $85,000 would likely expose deeper downside and trigger defensive positioning.
Ethereum has shown relative strength, holding near the $3,000 level after repeatedly testing a broad $2,700–$3,300 range over recent months. Analysts caution that a dip toward $2,700 could turn into a classic bear trap if sentiment flips post-Fed, while a clean break above $3,300 would put $3,500 firmly back on the radar. Losing $2,700, however, would shift focus toward $2,500.
XRP builds a base but waits for confirmation
XRP’s setup is quieter but just as important. The token has been steadily accumulating between $1.70 and $1.90, suggesting buyers are defending this demand zone despite broader macro uncertainty. However, XRP has struggled to reclaim the $2.40 resistance, keeping upside momentum contained for now.
Market watchers say a decisive breakout above $2.40 could act as the catalyst for a larger move, potentially opening the path toward $3.00 and $3.50, provided the $1.70 support continues to hold. Until then, XRP remains in a consolidation phase, reflecting cautious optimism rather than aggressive risk-taking.
Why Powell’s words matter more than the rate decision
According to the Federal Reserve’s rate-probability tools, markets are overwhelmingly pricing in a pause. That shifts all the attention to Powell’s forward guidance. Historically, crypto volatility tends to spike not on the decision itself, but on subtle shifts in language around easing, tightening, or economic risks.
For now, Bitcoin, Ethereum, and XRP remain structurally stable but tightly compressed — a classic pre-event setup. Once the Fed chair speaks, traders expect a sharp move to define the next trend.
