XRP bulls are facing a critical short-term test after the token slipped 3% over the past 24 hours and lost its fourth-place position by market capitalization to BNB. The move comes despite continued inflows into XRP exchange-traded funds and stable derivatives activity, highlighting a growing disconnect between institutional demand and near-term price action.
XRP slips despite ETF demand
XRP’s decline unfolded even as spot XRP ETFs continued to attract capital. Since launching in November, the funds have recorded only a single day of net outflows, with cumulative assets and total inflows steadily expanding. The resilience of ETF demand suggests longer-term interest remains intact, even as short-term traders lock in profits following XRP’s recent rally.
Derivatives data paints a similar picture. According to market metrics, XRP’s Open Interest has ticked higher compared with earlier in the week, signaling renewed participation. However, Open Interest remains below its January 6 peak, indicating that leverage has not yet returned to aggressive levels.
Technical structure turns fragile
From a technical perspective, XRP is entering a delicate zone. On the 4-hour chart, price continues to hold above the 50-period Exponential Moving Average, preserving near-term support. At the same time, XRP is trading below the 100-day and 200-day EMAs, which remain key overhead resistance levels.
Momentum indicators show mixed signals. The Relative Strength Index has softened, suggesting growing downside pressure that could trigger a retest of support if selling accelerates. Meanwhile, the Moving Average Convergence Divergence indicator remains above its signal line, indicating that bullish momentum has not fully broken down.
Analysts note that a strong daily close above the 100-day EMA would be a meaningful technical development and could open the door for a move toward the 200-day EMA. Failure to reclaim that level, however, could keep XRP range-bound or expose it to deeper pullbacks.
BNB reclaims fourth place
The reshuffling in market cap rankings reflects broader capital rotation across major cryptocurrencies. BNB’s move back into fourth place underscores how sensitive rankings have become amid shifting sentiment, ETF-driven flows, and short-term technical pressures.
For XRP, the loss of position is more symbolic than structural, but it adds to the psychological pressure at a time when price is testing key levels.
A decisive moment for XRP bulls
XRP’s current setup places bulls at a crossroads. ETF inflows and stable derivatives participation point to underlying demand, while price action and momentum indicators warn of near-term exhaustion. Whether buyers can defend key moving averages and reclaim higher resistance levels may determine if XRP resumes its broader uptrend or enters a prolonged consolidation phase.
