Bitcoin is holding just above the $85,000 level, showing little reaction to softer-than-expected U.S. inflation data that many traders had been watching closely. Despite the favorable macro signal, price action remains muted, with the market digesting more than $504 million in liquidations over the past 24 hours.
Several well-known analysts are now pointing to technical and statistical signals that suggest Bitcoin may not stay quiet for long.
Crypto analyst Ali Martinez noted that Bitcoin remains range-bound on lower timeframes. According to Martinez, the asset continues to face resistance just below $90,000, while buyers are defending support near $85,400. A decisive move beyond either boundary could set the tone for the next major trend, with a breakout potentially reviving bullish momentum and a breakdown opening the door to further downside.
Another trader, Daan Crypto Trades, highlighted an unusual pattern forming in Bitcoin’s monthly price structure. Historically, Bitcoin tends to print wide monthly trading ranges, but the current month has so far seen only about a 12% gap between the high and low. That range is narrower than normal in more than 90% of historical cases, suggesting it is statistically unlikely that both the monthly high and low have already been set.
This imbalance points to increased volatility ahead. While the data does not indicate direction, it implies that Bitcoin is likely to make a meaningful move before month-end, with at least a 5% swing required to test either extreme of the current range.
Market analyst Michael van de Poppe echoed these concerns, noting that Bitcoin’s recent price behavior highlights how sensitive the market remains to macroeconomic developments. Even after positive inflation data briefly pushed prices higher, Bitcoin quickly reversed, reinforcing the importance of the $88,000 level as a key resistance zone.
Van de Poppe also pointed to the Bank of Japan’s upcoming policy decision as a major catalyst for the week. While traditional markets such as the Nasdaq continue to rally and gold remains stable, cryptocurrencies appear to be lagging as traders brace for the possibility of a rate hike. Until macro uncertainty clears, Bitcoin may remain stuck in a tight range—setting the stage for a sharp move once pressure finally releases.
